Thoughts of a Running Man solo game

Y'all

Always when I mow my lawn I try to occupy my mind with other thoughts... Today my thoughts were of a future time when the top show on DTV (Death Television) is a survivor of a different sort.

Prisoners are given the opportunity to fight for their release or fight for the benefits given for just doing what they love to do... kill or be killed. The campaign is set up to be a season of programming. Arbitrary number, 12 shows. Players go at the challenge one at a time. There could be a multiple of competitors per show. Maybe fifteen minutes per show. Simple rule Kill or be killed, the killer wins the round and moves on the the next round. Contestant kills three opponents and takes one to the head, he that gives him the hole moves on. If multiple opponents kill the player, well they advance... as a team!

1st show, 1 contestant must survive one segment of the hour, but not just only to escape but kill and or mutilate as many opponents as possible with style (think "Gladiator"). If he/she finishes too quickly, or doesn't give the viewers a good show he/she will receive a random penalty for their next scheduled appearance. That could be a viewer selection like turning off the computer controlled firing pin in the contestant's automatic weapon, or -1 on a saving roll, etc.. Each show that a contestant successfully completes he/she receives bonuses in the form of armament, weaponry, etc... and level bonuses too, to show they can hack the challenges. Level bonuses are based on kills and whatever.

The show takes place in a different setting for each show, a setting like such as Necromunda. A contestant has to go through a predetermined area from start to finish to receive all the particular episode bonuses, kill the opponents with style to prevent Neilson rating disapproval, and do both to receive the maximum level bonuses.

It's not necessarily a PA setting idea... but then again a society’s collapse into decadence can provide the path for PA... I'm sure plenty of Roman Citizens felt the end of times were upon them as the fled the blades of the Barbaric tribesmen outside of Rome's controlling grasp.

Feed back please... remember it will be a solo event (event card suggestions will help), or ideas, comments which put a little more meat on the bones of this creation. Remember to I've only had about a 45 minute thinking time on this :-)

Nice idea.

The contestants go in unarmed? Then event cards could be weapons, a 'Jam' card to use on one opponent, 'fumble' card, 'distraction,' sorry, had more but I've a mental blank now :(

I reckon I'd go with Necromunda, that way you can go the injuries and advancement tables between matches.

Weapons would be a part of the advancement.

If opponent, "Zero" takes out the contestant "Hero" then "Zero" will carry the "Zero Weapon" onto the next show. If "Hero" takes out "Zero", "Hero" can use "Zero"'s weapon if "Hero' so chooses as he/she has to continue on through the segment.

Well you could have the guards and who ever else game controlled i.e. they move x distance each turn and shoot nearest player. On the side of cards maybe have random opponents cards where x number of opponents "drop in". Maybe have a deck of cards which provide random events ala Zombies!!! if you haven't played it then, i will give a quick explanation: you draw three cards at the beginning of the game and these affect the game in different ways such as weapon cards where you find a weapon. And as above the generated opponents. Also i think combat chronicles did a running man theme thing...

Edit: Here we go http://combatzonechronicles.net/cozoxa/runman.htm

I forgot about those rules in the chronicles. I even reconise some of my inventions (ruleswise) in there too.

Take a peak at these older rules - inspired by Unreal Tournament and written by my own hairy mitt in a varitey of crayon colours! :D
