I was under the impression it was one of those "I have every thing a destructive combat wombat could ever want" but you go back and get some weak armour or measly amount of cash, I just can't remember. Though something says to me that you get some special Perk that will aid you when you 'work' for the Corsican(sp?) Brothers. |

Working on a cross Genre RP and tactical system that will cross the lines to include Holies, Demons, Gangsters, stree thugs, militia, aliens and more. Hoping to find ideas and possible playtesters here as well as a fellow designer as well as an artist to help me get it into a publishable system. Thanks for the invite BTW. Jeff |

So you're designing a system that will suit each of those genres or are you writing a world that has all together? |

Zombie apoc started via a virus... governments eventually use nukes to try and contain... so farther down the road in the campaign (years) there are mutations to humans, plants, animals etc. I also have a Necromunda campaign setting that I use... Necromunda has always had a post apoc feeling to me... |

I like the setting in the novel Souls in the Great Machine by the Sean McMullen. Strangely it contains both steampunk and cyberpunk elements. Global warming became a problem and a coalition of governments decided to have Japan build nanobots to land on the moon and self-replicate, eventually forming a robotic mirror sort fo thing to reduce sunlight hitting the earth. then, for some reason I can't remember, the coalition broke up, there was a nuclear war, which solved the global warming problem by creating a nuclear winter. During the war, the various countries employed giant robotic satellites around the earth to direct EMPs at their enemies. So the book opens just as the 'Great Winter' is finally coming to an end. It is set in Australia (you see hardly any SF set here, let alone fantasy) and because of the EMP satellites (which attack and electrical output) trains run on wind power, technology is largely backward etc. The cyberpunk element comes in because one enterprising young woman is developing a 'computer', a giant processing machine run on slaves at desk with punch cards etc. I am writing a setting like this myself, my main aim being to have steam-powered mechs and other steam tech logically (insofar as that is possible) in a far future world rather than a Victorian one. However, looking at Souls in the Great Machine now (it was written a while ago) the giant EMP robots and nanobots do not seem very feasible. So I need some kind of way to prevent electricity. All I can think of is a nuclear blast in the atmosphere, but that would not last long and would wreak all kinds of environmental havoc. Anyone got any ideas. Ahh, wall of text! TLDR version: Theres this nook I like Edited by Hawkshaw, Dec 1 2008, 11:43 AM.

Right! *Rolls up Sleeves* I am a sparky by trade and I know a wee bit about EMP too. Keeping man made EMP going will be difficult unless they are automated satellites with tons of backups (military kit usually does!). In the end even they will fail allowing the rise of technology. So something natural? One big scource of EMP is outer space. Perhaps a neighbouring star goes nova. Or a black hole. It could be decades or centuries before the waves hit earth. Only military hardened kit will survive. Various states think they have been attacked by who ever is on their current shit list and in the panic authorise nuke strikes. Maybe our own upper atmosphere is damanged and it allows more EMP and radiation? Perhaps our own sun enters a uncharted cycle were there is a higher incidence of sun spots. They can cause havoc. The spots could be more regular and bigger than we have ever seen. Maybe they get more intense? One cause of the apocalypse could be a big rock falling to earth. Sadly for Earth the rock fragments and smashes the world to bits. No power can be generated. Why? The rock is made of some sort of unknown element that gives off EMPs. You could play with different field strengths to vary the worlds techs levels. Another idea is a weapon from a (now extinct) alien culture - worried with the rise of mankind and its habit of destroying everything they dont like or fear the build a EMP weapon to stop mankind reaching the stars. It could be located anywhere. Light years away or on our own moon. |

Hey thanks, I like the idea of the rock hitting the earth escpecially. Well, I like the idea of an EMP mineral, though I am not a big fan of a rock randomly hitting the earth (despite how likely it might be, it just seems to random). Hey while we are ont he subject, do you know if it would be possible to make a rock hit the earth? Maybe some faction tries to make the rock hit the earth so they are ready for it and none else is? Also - You're on a post apocalyptic wargames forum - you don't really need to call anyone a nerd lol |

Could have been worse, he could have called you an American P) ![]() Wouldn't be that hard to make a rock hit the earth, just grab a rock, find the right trajectory, push it a bit till it builds enough momentum that it'll rip through Earths atmosphere, let it go and wait for the aftermath. Problem is, it'd take a while to connect as it travels through space, so from start to finish, the job may take weeks/months/years. That's my understanding anyway........ |
