Does anybody have a preference as to the style of your PA minis? On the serious side you have things like Fallout and Necromunda, as opposed to the more humorous side with ideas like homicidal clowns and mailmen armed with automatic weapons.

Curious if one is preferred over the other.

Give me a mini of a Zombie,Nazi,Clown with a AK-47 and a dog with three tails and I am happy.

I also love my Lead Adventure PA minis and Necro.

I like a lot of character in my miniatures, but like Mr. Clean I'll take serious and the humorous.

Really serious minis would be starving, disfigured, and maimed humans in rags, dying horribly of radiation induced metabolic collapse, as well as more mundane, yet also lethal diseases.

Which is why I played Gamma World: the "fun" post apocalypse where radiation gave you wacky super powers, not leukemia. I guess that puts me in the "humorous" camp.

I am in the same camp.

Realistic Post Apoc is a grim topic and for me the hobby is about fun.

OK then, below is a selection of ideas some folks and I came up with for a potential PA minis game. I've also included a brief summary of the setting, please let me know what you think.

SETTING

  • Takes place after an apocalyptic event involving some kind of mutating energy(i.e. radiation).
  • Geographically, I was thinking the United States. I can sum up the visual feel in a few ways...the video game Fallout 3, the movie The Road Warrior, the movies Escape from New York/L.A.
  • I am talking about a world that has gone on for 20-30 years past the "event" to where some elements of society have started to emerge, but in a very limited way.
  • My vision is cities that are still in a state of disarray, mostly rubble, with very little to no infrastructure remaining from "before".
  • Cities are very much up for grabs as warring factions fight for control over resources and territory
  • I am thinking there are "hot zones" where radiation is still too strong to allow life, fringe settlements along the hot zone that have become strongholds for radioactive mutants/creatures.
  • The deserts and plains have become wastelands where food and gas have become more valuable than human life
  • The wastelands are fought over by marauding gangs of bikers and baddies
  • There is no central government, but a few groups are trying to stake their claim.
  • Another take could be that a central government has remained in tact but it is very limited in its power and oversight

I like that! :(|thumbup:

Would they be the evil overlords who actually started the war (most likely/serious), or idealists who honestly believe they can make a better world (delusional fantasy/humorous)?

They would be part of the group that was at least partially behind the nastiness. Their power has been eroded but they still cling to the idea that they make a come back.

Thanks for the feedback .

What about the drawings? These ideas are a obviously on the humorous side, what are your thoughts on them as ideas for different gangs of minis?

I tend to fall on the serious side of things. Whenever I see postapuncalypse I tend to start asking question like, where are they getting all that mascara and hairdye from, not to mention the metric tons of hair gel they'd need for those mohawks.

TBH I wouldn't classify Fallout as a particularly serious series what with all the in jokes and secret areas whathaveyou. It's certainly no where near as po-faced and grimdark as Necromunda, unless of course by Fallout you mean Fallout 3 in which case HERESY!!!

Well, by serious I mean non-humurous and only in reference to the look of the characters and setting. Right now, I'm not focused on the gameplay necessarily, just the visuals.

I definitely prefer a bit more "realism" to my games. Not the hyper-realistic fatalism that has been described above ("why roll dice? both of our factions are doomed anyway...") but a strong narrative thread that explains why these guys are fighting it out in the irradiated ruins of the old world. Less zany hairstyles, more utilitarian backpacks, gas masks and scrap armor. Ex-military commandos get the good guns. Mutants, sure, but more like tortured freaks of nature compared to flame-spewing neon warbeasts. Probably best described as the "STALKER" motif. That sort of thing.

Let's go serious.. Road Warrior (mad max) is Australian not US... Escape from L.A was a "not "Escape from New York 2..

When you go serious "reality" can and will go absurd to the point where it becomes funny.. fashion victims? .. plastic surgery psychopaths? ..killer clowns "Hells Harlequins? ..
Bad Ass (Bare buttocks?) Bikers. alternative for B.A.Bikers : "Hairy Hameroid Angels" ..

Realy serious (not funny at all) read and or watch the Road .. not much game and dice rolling in that.

Grim reality Newbie Stalkers Cleaning the outhouse..

I think I prefer something serious...but you can put some humourous things here and there (example a doll on the back of a raider ;)

Your setting sounds good

If I have a request...I think there is a lack of raiders like the "full contact " character on the drawing

I know there's Grenadier models savages made by M. Copplestone (beautiful figures !!) and Goliath gangers too...but that's not enough !!!! :P

we (well I) want punk crest, chains, spikes, shoulder pad, baseball bat and guns like mad max 2 and some fallout 3 raiders...in 28mm of course to make it compatible with other brands

please :wank:

:worship:
