I saw it cheap, I bought it, I finally watched it..... I liked it.

No mutants, not enough violence, predictable story (to an extent), but it had alot of redeeming features (apart from the boob shots...), lots of factions (town), evil bad guys, some violence. Just a 'B' grade cool.

Takes?

Read the book.

The film is only half the story and doesn't include the futuristic elements which would be great for a PA game.

Just downloaded this today, along with Waterworld which I'm half-way through re-watching. It's been some years, Waterworld actually makes me want to build some jetskis :)

And an oil tanker?

I've been thinking more and more of doing a faction like in the Postman (the name eludes me though).

Didn't they spend millions building a real floating fort for that movie? I wonder what happened to it.

Well they didn't spend it on a story, or on acting...

What sunk faster - that fort or Kevin Costner's career?

Which one do you suppose would be worth more salvaging?

Never write Bull Durham a blank check!

The movie was shmaltzy, but the book RUUUUULES!!!!

Hard to say why without spoilers, but there's a high-tech sentient supercomputer, and a group of people associated with it who call themselves Servants that go around collecting old tech from surrounding villages.

And there was nobody named Ford Lincoln Mercury. ><

It's a tale older than Costner: JUST DO THE [expletive deleted] BOOK! Is that too much to ask for, Hollyweird? :hitwithastick:

I've got the book on my to read list and it's disappointing the fact there will be no Mister Ford Lincoln Mercury 'cause the name is a hoot!!

That character in the movie was a combination of two characters from the book. One was a young, enthusiastic rider named Johnny, and the other was an older black man who I think had military training and ended up being the Postman's right-hand man.

They also made too much of his first "romantic" interest and totally skipped the second, more genuine one. It seemed like Costner was looking for corners to cut story-wise wherever he could, so he could focus on doing a frikkin' western. :P
