Motivation hit me, that and I need a 'change of scenery' for my games. See, when I set up the terrain, I'm always thinking that it needs something more, "just a building here, a wreck there" etc.

So, although I can pick exactly what I'd want when I set up terrain for games, I was kinda blank when I sat down today, so after shuffling around bits, this is what I managed:

A medium shop, I think I'll go down the track of service station on this one, or possibly corner shop.

Just a shack, thinking of the dozens of settings in adventures, it'd get a little bland with just the two/three shacks, so, there's another WIP one.

The shack's shaping up really good so far. I like the use of the different textures, gives it more of a cobbled-together feel. the service station/corner store looks pretty good so far as well.

The shack's about done really, just the roof, door, and window to build, then it's base'n and paint'n time.

The servo will be pretty dull, I'll be painting it as it is pretty much, then I'll build and paint the shelves, counter, ice fridge, swap and go gas cage. They'll all be glued in, then some removable bits, magazine shelves, coke fridges etc.

Nice work again - the shack looks good. That store will be handy. How will it be used?

As an 'empty' building for the most part, then when I do a 'civilised' town' set I might throw a trader in it.

Unfortunately I don't have enough chrome paint to do even half of it, so it'll be a while 'till it's painted.

Looking good. Why not paint it in brown, add orange patches, quick dry brush with chrome/silver (or grey), dark brown wash, orange wash, a further silver drydrush for the worn parts ?

Wotchya reckon?

Your theory does have merit! But I am a creature of habit (as opposed to a creature in a habit :D ), plus I need to make a fair sized paint order very soon, I need something in the vicinity of 24 paints to top up and refill my tray.
I do have a pot of Tamyia gun metal there that I'm not all that happy using on models, I may just bite the bullet and use that on terrain, that way I'll at least get some use out of it.

i know the 'tin' siding and roofing is corrugated cardboard, but how did you get the top and bottom layers off so cleanly? it is a pain in the arse! do you have some kind of secret to it?

Ahhhh, secret is that it's thin single sided corrugated card glued back to back. It's got a finer corrugation than if you peeled off a sheet from a card board box.

a single sheet?! madness!!

where might i acquire such an item, or must i resort to corrugated polystyrene?

I got mine when I was working at a winery many years ago. Try a store that specialises in scrap booking or paper art.

I use a tool that makes a corrugated sheet of paper, not half bad, a lit'l oversized but quite usable. I fact I was piddling with it tonight and used an aluminum can bit for for corrugated steel...

Nice looking stuff Ross... I'm looking forward to seeing it painted.

Tinker - how well does that do-hickey work, and where could I obtain one?

Uh, Xander..... I've already painted that piece a month or so ago :D It's the shack to the bottom left on some of the last No Mercy photo's and it should have some shots in the finished B29 terrain thread wherever I put it.

*shakes head* I'm having one of THOSE days..... So far 2 lectures have over run (1 by 5 mins, 1by 15! quite a feat bearing in mind our lectures are only 50 mins long!) as well as getting a list longer than my arm of thinsg to tweak on my presentation... oh, and the rig I was supposed to be running stuff on tomorrow has broken down, so I'll be helping to get it fixed... This isn't even mentioning the fact that they want me to go in over easter to collect some more data (not happening - I've got too much to do revising and writing my thesis up!)

With that work load I understand. Guess that's the problem with being a scientist, the plates always full.
