I've just noticed somethig really nasty and insidious... if there is not "game night" coming up. Then my missus has things for me to do that deny my painting schedule. There are shelves that need to be put up (to put my collection of minis on!) just when I need to be glueing/pinning/assembing my Skorne Gladiator... and when I want home early from the pub so I can spray/prime my Bane Knights... the car is unavailable! Am I alone? Or do those who have a "suppportive better half" find that "support" definately gets less "supportive" whenever it suits! This is probably just be a rant... but again I have lots of stuff to paint (those who saw my last list will know there were a few "fallers" that still need attention). Can someone tell me, that it's just me! |

Dude, give up the day job and do modelling as your main job. That way you get the best of both worlds. More time to model and family time! Yay! |

Nah mine's pretty good, it's outside elements that tend to put a halt to things. |

Mine is pretty good too. She puts up with my junk. Sadly you do need to juggle what you need to time wise. I am like you I dont like leaving a project (for me it will never get done!). Try putting a TV dinner table up and paint whilst the family watch the TV. My lady can watch all her DVD's and I can get on with painting and building without brain damage or losing the will to live! |

I shouldn't really complain... the missus is very good and understanding about a 33 year old man and his obsession with little metal toys... I think it's more like the fact that I'm at the pub with other 30 year old men (who like pushing around little metal men on a table after making tiny scale buildings and plats out of all the packaging she is trying to put in therecycling bin)... and then phone up drunk for a lift home that is really getting on her nerves. Ho-hum... now to prepare for the next game night... Yet another vast list of stuff to paint... I started tonight... but it'll be another marathon! Damn you eBay! PGC |

Is it possible to get her involved in it? I used to think it was an (expensive) waste of time...all that money for a bit of plastic and metal. That was until my partner got me to undercoat a few mini's, then I was filing, then painting little bits when he had 20 or so to do (I still can't believe he trusted me to do it - or maybe that was his dastardly plan all along...to let me assume I was helping in order to pique my interest, if so it worked) The nagging for him to do household chores turned into nagging him to buy me more mini's I don't really get the time to paint much anymore, priorities suck.

She does do some bits, usually when I'm frantically painting stuff for the "game nights" I host at our house... generally she likes to do the "PVA Glue and Poster Paint" jobs... the jobs she refers to as the "Playskool" jobs. So sticking sand to the CD terrain and painting it in green poster paint (then I do the dry brushing and stuff). So she is involved, but isn't interested in any of the other facets of the hobby (i.e. having friends round, drinking beer and rolling dice). We own a small farm, as-well-as working (I'm a Government Auditor and she's the Desk Editor for a Publishing Company) and that's really her hobby (farming, not working )... I don't take much to do with it (other than throw money at it!)... With my job, I have loads of free time, as I make my own shedule, but can be called away, to anywhere in the UK at short notice. While she is slaughtered for time, 9-5+ every week... so she spends an hour after work pottering around the farm... and any joint free time we have (which isn't more than a few hours a day), we spend together. As for an "expensive waste of time"... she dare not mention the words! She keeps a couple of horses too, those bloody things are relentless, money-eating machines... dropping £20 on a unit of "little metal guys" is nothing to the demands of those monstrosities! I think they eat gold! (you may note I am not a "pony-lover" )So I'm really only just bitching that she wouldn't give me a lift home one night, when I wanted to "have my cake and eat it" (i.e. go to the pub and then go home to paint some minis)... if that's all I have to complain about after 12 years... then I'm one of the lucky ones! LOL at playskool jobs. Sounds like you have the best of both worlds! I'm with her on the gaming side of it, I prefer the painting. I've had a couple of games (Battle for Skull Pass) and will one day learn to play it properly. Till then, I shall make a note to myself not to buy a pony
