Something a bit different today. My club has for some time, been slowly developing our own setting for sci-fi gaming called the Galactic Frontier: http://chicagoskirmish.blogspot.com/p/galactic-frontier-homebrew-sci-fi.html I recently wrote up an article for it about the planet "Oxxidon Alpha". It's more background for the setting, but it also serves another purpose. That is, to provide a way to work our Post Apoc gaming into our sci-fi setting. I'm wary of settings that try to do too much, but at the same time, I really like the idea of having as much of our gaming as possible contributing to the development of our own gaming universe. You can read the History of Oxxidon Alpha here: http://chicagoskirmish.blogspot.com/2014/05/oxiddon-alpha-troubled-world-on.html The bit relating to the post apoc setting is near the end, but it also covers: -Early colonization of the world -Creation of the Bridge Cities -The Bridger-Broadlander wars and it's aftermath. I'm be curious to hear what you folks think of it. Also, our club's blog editor also scoured the web to put some really cool sci-fi art in there. |

Very good and well written backstory on Oxxidon Alpha. Most people have a hard time articulating their game settings but yours has a professional writers quality to it that made it easy and interesting to read. I’m looking forward to hearing more about this universe and the struggles that take place there. |

Thanks! I have the benefit of a good editor in the club member who curates the blog. I'm glad you liked it. Most of the info about the universe so far is in short mentions on the main page listed above. However if you like the long form articles, I've got one about the History of the Ventauran empire: http://chicagoskirmish.blogspot.com/2014/03/galactic-frontier-recent-history-of.html It was a way of giving a backstory to my Ventauran faction while at the same time tying in some of the games we've put on at local conventions over the past 2 years (written up on the blog, but not linked to the history section yet) all of which focused around the Mecha combat during UC campaign against Melk 3. Also, a shorter overview of the Maersk-Tesla Corporation http://chicagoskirmish.blogspot.com/2014/05/the-maersk-tesla-corporation.html This faction has only seen battle once, culminating in the loss of a survey team as detailed here: http://chicagoskirmish.blogspot.com/2014/10/bloodbath-in-nanotech-dustbowl.html But is integral to the Oxxidon story and I see it as a very useful faction to have around. A sort of "Weyland Yutani" kind of faction that can serve alot of narrative purposes in sci-fi gaming. I hope to write more soon and I'll post it here when I do.
