I might do a last light dry brush on them just to kiss the edges with some orange-brown.
They turned out very nice reguardless.

Cheers! I'd thought of that extra dry brush, but I'm a wee bit concerned that it make them look just too rusty... I'll shall live with them for a while and think on it, rather like the insignia.

I've also just finished all the basing, and got some scenery to boot! An old forrest section haws now been given an arrid base, a Wilkinsons Coya door mat (£3 for 2'x1' or slightly larger mat!) is in the process of being cut in to sections of crops & long grass & the remainder of my aquarium plant elephant grass has been finished. I'll get pictures tomorrow, once the static grass has dried.

The post also bought some goodies - Red Scorpion & Dogs of war; which'll keep me fueled on ideas for a while!

And a sneak peak of things to come...

Yes, that is a 1/56th scale Alouette III - Its the only one of its type I've ever seen (for some reason, no one seems to do Alouettes in 1/48th), and here is a picture showing its size compared to a figure:

Mate they are sweet, I especially love your GIs, the guy with the confed flag is Badass. Are they chiltern aswell? I'd heard the weapons were a bit oversize but they lok fine to me.

Cheers - Nope, none of my stuff is Chiltern. The GIs are all from Baker Company.
Chiltern figures are all just really chunky, and quite a bit bigger than most of the other ranges - put next to TAG guys than can look rather like Orks... Nice enough figures though, and if you keep to just their range (and Maybe Brittania & Black Scorpion if you don't mix in units) you should be okay...

Nice hellichopter! :D Looking good.

On the tanks try some metal or light grey around the edges too so the paint looks chipped. Dont forget some light bleached bone dry brushing to add dirt to the tanks.

BTD UK had a reputation a while ago for not sending out orders promptly... I think a 3 month wait was the record I heard, and with little or no communication about what was happening when people enquried.

Ooh very nice!

Are you going to be painting the Alouetee/Unimogs by hand(well brush)??

And where did you find them? Unimogs in perticular?

Yup - I'll be doing it by hand (well - certainly the unimogs, although I may try to be inventive with the helicopter)

They were all from eBay - the Alouette was an unspecified toy helio; the unimogs were matchbox 'superkings' unimogs :(|grin:

Cheers Danny! This'll be the end of the majority of the militia... my next task will be getting the Mafrobian Army up to strength! I've been looking over my WW2 US figures, and getting those bunched into groups to start painting/re-painting. I was originally going to skip giving the Mafrobians Tommy Guns, but I've so many thompson armed troops that I'm going to have to relent (Otherwise all the mercs will be armed with thompsons and nothing else!)

I've also just finished watching 'Africa Addido' and would highly recomend it to anyone interested in the period. Its available to watch free on Google Vieos:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4540134202583442015#
Be warned - it is pretty graphic, so those with weak stomachs should be advised to stay away. There are some great shots of Mercs in action from ~1hr 55mins onwards

Just thought I'd copy this DAWGIE quote across from the weapons section to here, as it has some relevance:

Quote:

I understand the differences in terrain between the RVN and AFGHANISTAN.

most of my firefights in the RVN were at 25-50 meters, but, hell, the terrain, even in the "open", for the most parts was _dense_ and sometimes very darkly lit (in the brightest broad daylight there is perpetual gloom in the jungle).

soldiers and tangoes must be holding fire till they see the whites of the enemies eyes in AFGHANISTAN, unless we are talking about "street fighting".

my M14 was heavy, long, awkward at times, but it always went BANG! when i squeezed the trigger, which is more tan i can say for MATTY MATTEL!

when we were re-issued MATTY MATTEL and denied M-14s, i got a M1917 WINCHESTER TRENCH GUN, a pump action 12 ga lovely that was accidentally designed so that as long as you held the trigger back and pumped the slide, it would rapidly fire. the M1917 REMINGTON did not have this wonderful "flaw". with a fully loaded magazine, i could put out _MORE_ projectiles, sized 00, 0, or No 4 shot than MATTY MATTEL or the PLAIN JANE M-14 firing one mag on full auto. i got so i could do rapid reloads, too, which were not as fast as ejecting a spent mag, then locking another into place and loading a round, but pretty damned fast!

i am here today because of MR BROWNING's well designed, rugged, reliable M1911A1 pistol and M1917 trench gun.

aside note: my first GI ammos for the trench gun were 12-ga brass cartridges, not cardboard or plastic ones.

Cheers for the comments guys!

if you have any extra WW II HEER or other GERMANS wearing camo smocks, "combat boots" and toting STGW-44s, you might consider some noggin swaps and file away the gas mask canister to have some EURO-DEWD and MAFRIBOREAN DEWDS armed with this weapon too.

it was in use limited numbers in AFRICA in the 50s, 60s, and 70s, as well as other places around the world.

more recently (several years ago actually) the son of a buddy of mine back from IRAQ told his dad (and had a photos to go with the tale) of a stockpile of 1960s made ammo for the STGW-44 his unit discovered.

also i have been told by old soldiers that "schmeissers" and "bergmanns" were being used in the CONGO, and i know i saw "schmeissers", P-38s, and at least one (1) CHICOM knockoff of a pre-WW I MADSEN LMG (probably the ugliest weapon i ever saw, but still a deathdealer) in the RVN.
