In mankinds dwindling twilight years many new scientific discoveries were made, including how to genetically enhance both animals and humans for various purposes, be it service in hostile environment or for specific tasks. No matter the good intentions, in the end they were all used for warfare of one kind or another and ultimately led the world to become the hostile wasteland we now know it as. From the ashes of these conflicts rose four noted individuals, forged together in battle and with a common goal to survive the horrors of war and build (or claw) a better world for themselves, these four are Gorillachev's Howlers, a tightly knitted mutant bounty hunter group, below follows a short bio of each individual. Colonel Gorillachev: There are many myths and legends abound about the outfits undisputed leader, but the most possible truth is that he was born in captivity at a zoo in Moscow, where the keepers noted his bright intelligence, almost on par with a chimpanzee! Unscrupulous scientist soon got their hands on him and pumped him full of experimental drugs, which reaped a bountiful harvest. The gorilla's intellect expanded and they indoctrinated him with tactics, strategies and all kinds of military knowledge making him one of the most valued officers in the Red Army. But due to his animalistic origin he was never to be more than a tool for them, and one day the good Colonel took the men under his command and left. The Red Army tried to stop and detain them, deeming them too dangerous to be outside the Red Army's control but they had taught Gorillachev well, too well. With his animalistic cunning and encyclopaedic strategy knowledge he managed to escape, but at a prize, left of his unit were only four "men", Crockatansky, Mr Hyde, Joe Fix-It and himself. In the messed up world they live in they try to find their place, often viewed with mistrust or purely as muscle. They are however very good at their job and charge high fees for their involvement. Crockatansky: Very little is known about the early life of the giant named Crockatansky but "he" (no one has ever gotten close enough to determine the gender...), but he was found in the Prague sewers and had caused considerable damage and fear before the authorities managed to capture him. Whichever mad scientist decided that such a dangerous creature could be of use was never found out but extensive tests were made. They revealed that the creature possessed an enormous strength, speed and agility coupled with a natural thick hide that could repel most small arms fire and a ferocious blood thirst. With time they managed to "discipline" the creature for their purposes and turn it into a finely tuned killing machine. Crockatansky shuns guns but woe to anyone that he get's within striking distance of, the gigantic Vibrocleaver can cut through steel, even tank armour in his capable hands. Crockatansky is able to talk and can have a coherent conversation, which has both surprised and put the fear in many, but in battle his underlying blood thirst comes to the fore and he seem to thrive. Mr Hyde: His parents knew he was "different" already at birth, the purple skin and the green hair was a big clue. In the small mountain village where he grew up he was constantly bullied by the other "normal" children and consequently the family tended to keep themselves to themselves. In his teens he did discover that his skin could take on the shape, colour and texture of the surroundings, like a chameleon which was a big help during the hunting trips he took with his father. At this time the awkward lanky youth seemed to transform into a lithe agile being, with eyesight like a hawk and hearing far beyond human capabilities, he also could move as silent as a wisp of smoke. When he reached adulthood the Red Army was recruiting individuals for "special duties". Mr Hyde signed up and after initial tests and examinations he was sent to a Spetsnaz unit, led by Colonel Gorillachev as replacement for the previous sharpshooter. Mr Hyde was more than an adequate replacement, in fact he seemed born to it. When the good Colonel decided to quit, Mr Hyde followed him without a second, he owed everything he was and got to Colonel Gorillachev. Mr Hyde feels confident and relaxed in company with his team mates, but all those years of bullying has ingrained him with a deeply felt mistrust and awkwardness towards outsiders. Joe Fix-It: Joe grew up in a loving family and looked and behaved like a "norm" with one exception, he had an extra arm with a fully working hand! Joe didn't let that interfere with his life and he turned it into an asset instead of a handicap. He was bright and popular enough to get a scholarship for a prestigious university and studied hard, he wanted to become a physician. It turned out he was a natural and he also loved tinkering with gadgets and stuff, just to see how they worked and why, always of a curious mind our Joe. But instead of entering a challenging and fruitful career of his choice, one night after a little too much to drink he got dragged into the local cop-shop, severely beaten for a misdemeanour and when it turned out he was a mutant, pressganged into service! When he came to he was in a strange place with strange people and shouted at by a drill sergeant. Joe quickly realised what had happened and made the best out of the situation that he could, always nursing the thought of escape in his chest. His family were beside themselves with worry for their son who had disappeared without a trace. Joe was taught the basics of how to handle weaponry but they had better use for him as a field surgeon and gunsmith, paradoxally enough he was as skilled at patching people up as inventing new ways of killing them with. When Colonel Gorillachev "left" the army, Joe Fix-It was only one step behind, eager to find the means to contact his family with and tell them he was alive. Joe was marked by the Mutie War and only rang them once, to say that he was alive but had changed too much, he was not the same kind man he had been, he had many dark things on his conscience, but maybe, maybe there'd be Redemption for him? And then he would come home. |
