background for USNA "500 years to this day a war that had raged in the political senates broke out into an uncontrollable beast. the battle of ideologies split mankind and the two empires went to war... a war no one could win, using weapons forbidden for their shear destruction, both sides fired too close together to see who had given the orders first the ground split apart... the oceans boiled... storms of glass shards from great cities slew the population and the diseases and mutations which followed killed the rest. save a few... who defied the odds and remained alive while the poisoned world perished. years of suffering and struggling brought us to the brink of extinction... ...but we prevailed..." today the world has been scared beyond recognition and what we perceive as the modern world we not be seen again, yet scientists, using old computer data and long lost books have pieced together enough information to work out they inhabit a land previously known as america. yet the geography has changed and borders matter for nothing. years of fighting and two civil wars with the confederate nations fighting the republic of the USNA. have created the USNA the united states of new america... although the name was unpopular at first, many political factions wanted to create a new country with new principles and a new name, but the deed poll election raised the USNA as the official title. the cities much of the USNA; about 74% of the population given the last census lives in the large cities which dot Americas barren wastes. cities such a Nu-York, New-Mumbai and Neo-Tokyo, named after great pre-war cities are the height of modern technology, high rise cities with healthy and prosperous populations live in these great metropolises, medical technologies mean people are living for potentially hundreds of years, booming economy mean unemployment is virtually non-exsistent and free elections mean anyone regardless of gender and race can vote. like nothing seen on old-earth the cities are the mountaintops of the future, boiling pots of culture and innovation... the victory of future over past. the western wastes it would be naive to think nuclear war would not leave its scars. while the bandits, raiders and warlord have been driven from the land, humans are still unable to exists fully in the wastes... but that doesn't stop people trying, men fight the land as much as they fight each other... unwilling to police the wastes the cities just ignore them, while people starve in the west... men and women get rich in the cities. ... and so the west is lawless, a broken place full of broken people. men live and die by the gun, earning a living anyway they can, these townships exist because they can. they are places of decadence and sin.. but also the homes of men. the great cities occasionally expand and purge the areas the colonize of all human life. in the wastes the cities are feared and hated, it is commonly said that one urban dweller is not worth 3 waste dwellers and that often seems to be right. the wastes breed hard men who have learnt to hunt and kill since they could walk. Pinkertons and marshals are often sent from the cities to pacify certain towns... many dont return, symbols of authority are crushed and city dweller have often been lynched in the most anti-city frontier towns. ...in the wastes is dog eat dog... and the weak don't last long... to be continued.............. |
