So a while back I shaped out a tree using various bits of wire I had and then put it in a box and forgot about it. The other evening I pulled it out and wrapped it with electrical tape and then slathered on some acrylic latex sealer I had left over from making some roads. It fills in the gaps nicely and takes paint well. It's also flexible so it won't crack off and keeps the tree more resilient. I stuck it to an old CD, put down some bits of wire and such to give the illusion of roots. I then slathered it with wood glue and sprinkled bits from my 'grit' box. It's a mix of sand, pea gravels, broken cork, coffee grounds, etc... makes great basing material.

When I was done I thought it needed something so I put a skeleton at it's base with a big blast hole in its chest... here it is

It's currently being painted (various shots of grey primer, blacks, and brown spray paints) The leaves I make by spreading out some polyester fiberfill in a box and soaking it with black then brown, then grey spray paint. I pull it apart a little and flip it around some until there is no more obvious white left.

When it's ready I'll tear hunks of it off and pierce it with the limbs and use super glue. Once dry I'll spray thecrap out of the fiberfill with matte sealant and then sprinkle on flock while it's wet. Takes a few attemps to cover all the empty spots. Once that is done and dry I'll shake off the excess flock then spray it again with the sealant. Stiffens up nicely and the flock doesn't fall off at all. I'll post more when it's done.

Cheers!

Looks like a very interesting build with a good amount of detail! Coffee grounds one of my favorite cheap ground covers
