I have limited play area so i was thinking about a tower table with lots of terrain above the table ,as well as on it.This way i can double playing space haha! I was planning on having the buildings connected with rickety walkways and foot bridges(planks tied together).
Not sure if i want to put all my time into an idea that might not turn out so great though  So everytime i am between projects i work on it a little bit. Here is the first tower i have been working on. it is not finished but i wanted to share it! The top needs alot more paint and detail work.
In my head i picture this connected to a similar column structure, with another shanty dwelling on top.So i could play above, as well as below.

I like what your trying to do and enjoy your work. Keep us informed on this project.

By choice I deal with a self imposed space issue and have been trying different designs for a wall installation that will allow vertical gaming. It has been a lot of brainstorming, but not too much constructing. Recently I have discovered the following Link over at the Lead Adventurers Forum... http://www.lead-adventure.de/index.php?topic=46432.0 which I believe would make a practical idea in the vertical gaming concept. There too is the old Necromunda Tower that was featured in a past issue of the White Dwarf... http://superseb.free.fr/necromunda/tower4.jpg

Good luck with the snow,Willy!

I like the tower lots. How about ruined buildings with shanties and fire excapes and basements more shanties and...................

I got about 1/3 of the way through building a Necro tower like the classic GW one,it was hard to keep motivated so in the trash it went.It was a huge waste of T and M let me tell you.

Great idea. The tower looks great.

I have thought of doing something similar. Your project may be the kick in the butt I need.

Keep the updates coming.

I don't want to rain on a promising idea, but keep a couple of factors in mind. The first is how much of your baseboard will the footprint of your tower require for stability (it looks like you've already worked out it can be less than that of the elevated area if you ballast the base and lower stages of the tower). The second is the more you populate the baseboard with elevated structures the less accessible (in practical terms, i.e. for reaching to place playing elements) will be the proportion of the baseboard actually available for playing on - this will be greater than that simply occupied by the tower bases. So you won't double the playing area as such - increasing it by half would probably be a good result. But even this, plus the attractions of movement in three dimensions is probably worthwhile. I'm just suggesting that you really need to do a bit of advance planning of how and where the terrain pieces will be utilised before committing yourself to building them.

Regards,

M

i think this is an amazing idea, tall gamin boards look impressive
and give, literally, an extra dimension to the game...
if you can pull off a whole settlement like this it'd be epic!
:)

I worked on a few more pieces for my tower town idea, right now they are a unpainted unglued mess, but im starting to get an idea about what im gonna do. for now im trying to get a feel for how to approach it.I am going to base everything on cd's. so i lose as little playing space as possable.Hell i just include the bases as playing space and lose nothing.I have about 5 or 6 more unpainted columns as well.I just have to figure out how i am going to put clusters of shanties all over them ;p, I guess i will just do a little here and there and see how it turns out!

Your pieces look good and exciting... Basing onto CD's makes Moramarth's concern of accidental knock overs valid. Maybe using pieces of Styrofoam or foam core extending out from the CD base as walls can help prevent the knock overs and give ground based forces more protection at the same time.

Good idea! Extra cover is always sweet!I have done the shake test on the table, nothing seems to wobble :drunk: Although my cat has caused me some trouble haha

I was thinking more the inward awkward reach causing tip overs. I have to design for my sausage fingers not causing problems!
