Improvised walls and gate and junk; Some junk, some walls and a gate for a small fort.

This is my first time posting pics, so let's see if I can figure this thing out...

I have been working on building a junkyard/scrapyard, plus a small 'fort' for survivors. Think of this as mid-apocalypse (a few weeks after the fall) I am trying to make things somewhat modular, and so usable as a modern junkyard, or rusting hulks in a far future wasteland.

The walls are based on craft sticks (tongue depressor type) with match sticks and swizzle sticks for posts. I am using pieces of aluminum cans that I have folded to look like corrugated steel/tin. When I made the gate, it turned out smaller than I had planned, but works for people, just not vehicles. I need to plan a larger version for vehicle traffic. I also need to make some guard towers.

Now that I have looked at these, I think I need to make some of the metal sheets different colors, and then rust/weather the heck out of them. I also need some battle damage. Bah, anyway, comments and criticism welcome!

I will try and improve my photography skills...

The figs I have included are Eden from Reaper and a Wargames factory Zombie for some scale. Sorry forgot to include them in all the shots, but you should get the idea...

These look fantastic! I really like the corrugated iron and wooden fencing and gate so much it inspires me to make something of a similar style. Only details I might add for extra interest and color contrast is graffiti and/or signage of some nature. For the junk maybe a little high grass for detailing against the various pieces.

What did ya use for bases?

The bases for the junk are pieces of MDF, with a sand/gravel cover and then just painted. I was considering some static grass, I just wasn't sure if I wanted to go with that. I am really thinking of having a tree growing up through the truck.

My skills at graffiti are poor, it never looks right to me. What about adding quarantine posters and government alert type posters? I think I have seen someone with some zombie-themed posters around...

Nice scenery! Reminds me that I need to do a gate some day. What's the machinery between the car wrecks made of?

Great looking terrain.

With graffiti practise on old boxes until you improve. Try copying band logos. Iron Maiden, Slayer and Metallica are all good.

The junk machinery is just stuff thrown together from my left over bits box. One part is a battery holder from some old toy car, as well as gears from a couple of wind-up toy cars. There is a heroclix base, some tube cut-offs, some wire, just junk bits.

I will try some graffiti practice. I just always have trouble with painting onto a painted surface (if that makes any sense) I was never a tagger...

I want to make more walls, so I'll try out some tags, I can always repaint it if needed.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I'll post the changes when I get them done.

The idea for posters is a good one for interior spaces...

As for Graffiti take a look at the following tutorial... http://s1.zetaboards.com/Post_Apoc_Wargames/topic/4206127/1

Nice work! Could you please tell us how you actually made your corrugated sheet? I'd like something more substantial than card and your recycled tin seems ideal.

Regards,

I am using old soda cans run through a scrap booking tool - a Fiskars Page Crimper. I got it at a Michael's for about $10.

I tried some graffiti - The main one is for a gang from my ATZ campaign (ATL 39 - the Atlanta to 39th gang)

I have another junk pile:

A generator type thing:

What I affectionately call "the Crusher':

Finally a shipping container I will have survivors used as a shelter:

Thanks, that’s exactly what I needed to know. The local craft shop doesn’t have such an item at the moment but they recognised the description and will order one if I can’t get it elsewhere

Cheers,

M
