Petrol station

It's time to brave that first step! My first attempt at scratch-building something, I decided to make good use of all the foam core I have lying around. This is (hopefully...) going to become a petrol station for my PA/ Zombie gaming and here is the first view of it so far. I bought some really cheap acrylic paint and brushes in the poundshop today, so I hope that it will do the trick. The building and gubbins will be glued to an A4 sized foam board later on as a whole piece.

You might want to look in charity shops for an old fisher price (or similar) garage, you can rip the fuel pumps off that and transfer them to your scratch build and also have a parking lot to boot.

@Moramarth: yep, I've seen that before. The guy is absolutely amazing!!

@Flip: for now I settle for making it have the gist of a petrol station, but worth considering for later. Thanks for the tip.

Cool!

The pumps are a bitch to replicate,i have a gasstation i started years ago sitting around unfinished because i couldnt come up with acceptable pumps. One day i threw a few that looked ok together but the passion was lost and the station STILL sits. :-/

Thanks gents! I'm soldiering on with trial-and-error, two important lessons have been learned so far: 1) Foam board basing warps very easily! Wish I had read the tips in the Terrain section first :twitch: , I have applied PVA glue on the back and hope that sort it out and 2) I should've applied the cheap acrylic paint neat at first! It took three coatings for the paint to cover the building.

As this is my first scratch-build project I am only trying to get it together, nothing fancy. I am happy with the broken window and the askew door though, as this piece is for my PA/ Zombie games.

The pumps were a bitch as the paint was running all over :(|droopy: but I think they look damaged/ burnt/ grimy and defunkt this way.

I am probably putting on a detachable roof and some grafitti/ bullet holes/ blood stains.

Hope you'll like it so far.

Good attempt. To further customize it think a few "non-styrafoam" accessories would enhance the model.

They still do :( . The textured paint helps slow them down.

I think a few speed bumps may help with sliding models.
