Hi here is a thread which will contain some very raw sketches which id like people to (nicely) critique for things like scale, proportions and errors.

First up this is a sketch i've altered to have better proportions, see what you think.

the original

bear in mind the hands are intentionally oversized powerfist things.

proportions on this one? and the next..

thanks in advance :)

I think the arms look stumpy but it was meant to be a perspective thing.

this was meant to be a secret miniature design ha ha

Methinks the powerarmor and guy´s and Gorger´s legs are a bit to short. Also it´s really difficult to draw hands - last guy who could draw them correctly was Duerer. ;)
The Dreadstalker has a very dynamic pose, and looks quite cool and mean. However, personnaly I dislike grossly oversized "heroic style" melee weapons like his cleaver.

Left Shoulder of the Power Armor feller is too low on the upper torso, and the arm is too short as well... the pose is lacking in dynamic elements reworking the legs should solve that issue.

I like your Ligne claire style!

honestly, i prefer the ones with less armor,Dreadstalker is sweet.Although i would put a chain in his hand instead of that cleaver/sword.Really nice work man!

I like em all, but without the spiked armor. I feel spikes have been over used and your stuff will be more original wihout them.

I really like the fact that you include ammo belts in your work.

Firstly Mortius, I really respect the way you have gone about this - critical feedback is both hard to welcome and the single most positive way you can improve - so bravo!

Secondly, I feel your in between styles - the more dynamic Dreadstalker I feel is your 'A game'. The image has character and movement. I feel the simplification of the hands and legs has allowed you give the character real life.

Remember these guys will be damn small, the concept has to translate at an arms distance and I feel the Dread stalker does this... as for peoples comments on the size/type of weapon - simply trace the image and do a few 'what ifs' as it may influence how you proceed with casting it, you can always do multiple weapons to choose from.

As for perspective... its hard to get right in general. draw up a frame work to follow from the finishing point in the distance to the front using straight lines.. its hard to explain but there are lots of guides out there, I used an artist reference book I purchased at a charity shop for a couple of pounds.

And lastly hands... pain in the ass!!! The Simpsons has 3 fingers due to this age old problem. go down the same route as the dread stalker with this one, Get the overall shape right and don't worry too much - personally I avoid fingers as much as humanly possible! Hands is one of those practice issues... just take time to draw your hand! Put it into lots of different positions and do 1 minute sketches, speed sketching will improve your ability 100x

Here is a few guides I have used, they aren't great but they got me better pretty quick.

http://www.drawinghowtodraw.com/drawing-lessons/improve-drawing/speed-rapid-sketching-exercises.html

I think you are going in a really good direction, KEEP GOING!

***EDIT ***

NEGATIVE SPACE!!!

I forgot to mention this! As an exercise try building the image but drawing the negative space [avoiding outlines].

As a tattooist I have been taught to 'bloodline' - you outline without ink, only using the ink to shade within the confines of the slightly irritated 'bloodline'... basically there are no hard black lines in reality defining your form, your form is defined by the lighting at play on it, so try and draw with out the cartoon outline just using the shading within it - I think you will be stunned what an effect it has.

Thankyou guys you are very helpful here and I really do take onboard your feedback, Rusty its nice to have someone in the biz to give a few pointers (and handy links!), I blame Borderlands for the black outline ha ha, it was just something I did to make it easy for PS to create a smooth layer mask. my sketches get painted over most of the time as you can see in this half done picture:

this is more like what the finished picture looks like.
