Ok, about 2 months ago I posted some pics before I left for holiday. I labeled this post my 'Lord Humungous Vehicle', and actually had the model painted and 'dipped' right before I left, but it was too wet to take pictures of. In that time, some things have changed. 1) I was unhappy with this first attempt at the LH truck, as I just made a generally generic, if not beastly, vehicle. 2) I 'demoted' this vehicle to an 'elite' trooper in the gang, perhaps if Wez had a truck, this would be it. 3) I made a new Lord Humungous Truck that I am just pleased as punch with. 4) I made a 3rd (and soon to follow 4th) vehicle for a future total of 4 vehicles for the gang. 5) Here is the fruit of my labor, as always, please let me know what you think! Cheers Mate! The last pictures with Humungous in the other vehicle were taken before I decided to do a rebuild, so that was his original home and gunner. I transferred that gunner to the red car and resculpted another gunner to be Toadie. I took some closeups of him to see, hat and all. I'm going to touch up his face and glasses though. I'm going to build one more Renegade and then one more Interceptor for a second Op. That will be my core set, then I plan on building a MFP set of Interceptors as well, yellow striped. I also have a bunch of bikes to work on.... yikes.. |

The the miniatures look very spot on, and the construction & scratch building for such a small scale are marvelous!! The only critique that I might suggest is using a lighter dip, or maybe not use it at all. You may be able to achieve the same effect using Devan Mud Wash from the GW paint line. |

Cheers Guys! Tink, I like the AP dip (I brush it on actually, but no matter) more for the protection it gives to the models than for the effect, which is easy to get with another technique. But I have to say, for game models that get banged around, that thick high gloss is tops. I'll eventually tone it down with Dullcote, but I have some 'tinkering' left to do

It wasn't the gloss, but the darkness of the dip mutes the colors. I would think that at arms length the colors would really be dim. |

Ah, I have to admit, they look fundamentally different in person than on film, I'm not sure how to take better pics... I have a decent camera, but I'm not clear what I'm doing wrong. The two larger vehicles have fairly dark colors, until I did the second truck I was not even aware that the film vehicle was a red and black tiger stripe! The darker dip was my attempt at a quick and dirty way to get them 'gritty' and seal them at the same time. Thanks for the feedback though, I'll take another look at my technique. |

I agree that that dip will definitely give the vehicles protection from banging 'em around! Just so you know from where I'm coming from I plan on trying out that dip method myself sometime in the future. Currently I'm using the so called secret wash, a 4:1 mixture of water to Future Floor Wax with a drop or two of paint or ink. I've used it a couple times, and still experimenting with it. Once I get into painting my figures I'll give a go at posting some photos. |

Amazing work. You put so many nice details in there. I use the dip method on my stuff as well for protection and because it makes shading a breeze on 20mm figures. Plus, it gives some nice color effects sometimes. I take care of the gloss with Testor's Dullcote. That way you get the protection and a nice flat finish. Edited by Annerios, Jul 23 2012, 04:48 AM.

@Tink, PLEASE post pics, successes and near hits, for the 'special sauce' project. I'm away studying and have limited space and funds, that's part of the reason why I just bought the AP product. I have to say, it's fantastic. I use the darkest tone the most, I like the cartoony grittyness. I painted all my Zombies! zombies and figures with it, my Dark Future minis and Mansions of Madness. I plan to paint Zombicide with it as well. The only critique, I don't care for the AP matt. It's SO matt. I'll pick up a case of Dullcote from FLGS and cool everything down with that. @Annerios Thanks so much mate! I really love the scale! Once I finish the last 2 cars I'll get to work on the bikes and then the peds. I'm having a great time with the project. I also need to get the weapons painted up...lol I've been following your projects as well. Way to set the bar Mate! |
