Funny you should mention Necro Ninja, I have been reading the rules this week and wanting to run them in a small campaign (Aryanreiche clearing tunnels under the city/bunker/nearby ruins/nearby mountains). Apart from the short weapon ranges and the U go I go I quite like them. They cover all sorts of things that most "squad" games dont and they fit Wastelandering nicely (check out the Ashwastes supplement too - it has vehicle rules). Another bonus is as all GW rulesets run a similar stat system so adding mutants modded from fantasy or 40K aliens can be easily done. There is also a good wealth of online fan sites that cover homebrew rules too. Another set of free rules that doesnt have a squad limitation is Skank. But that is written with post apoc/near future games in mind. It is worth a look. Edited by mattblackgod, Sep 6 2009, 10:55 AM.

You can work around the Squad rules in FO:W by simply making all your troops Heroes, which also eliminates the Restricted Weapons rule (and allows them to have Skills and carry special Items) but sometimes that just isn't appropriate. A gang of Raider heroes? What the hell is that? LOL I also like the Necromunda "Hiding" rules. There's a Stealth skill in FO:W but it's Heroes-only, and its functionality is questionable. I'm going to look more closely at the rules on my days off this week. |

Only 11 days late to the party.... Necromunda gets a big vote from me for PA games, I mean technically the setting's a futuristic PA city as long as you choose to forget the upper spire and the rest of the galaxy. I know alot of die hard Necro fans think the system's flawed as hell, but I mean do you sit there to play a game and deliberately poke holes in it or do you play it for fun? I've been thinking today I might have to turn my hand back to the setting (I was looking at heaps of unfinished stuff in the shed this morning).... A bit of a turn from PA, I've ordered the Might and Reason rules which will be arriving on Monday. So I'll be setting up for some 18mm Seven Year Wars once I've read the rules and figured out how the forces are formed and based. Plus I'll need to choose a nation to back..... |
