So what do you play?

I am a big fan of the Skank rules - they are free, quick to play, paperless, and great fun. I found that these rules work really well for HUGE games right down to smal gang fights/RPG.

Combat Zone is another - it is more of a near future/cyberpunk style game but the rules are quick to learn, easy to play, easy to adapt. They work well in games up to 15 minis a side and give a nice cinematic feel to your game. Another reason these rules are popular is the massive amount of online support for them. Some strange man even wrote rules for Squats and Orks..... :-/

Mutants and Death Ray Guns is great fun and interesting. It is another pure post apoc game with huge pulp/cheesey sci-fi leanings. The activations are varied per round and give a chaotic game with twists and turns. The downsides are that there is not abilty for Wasteland heros and the weapon rules are a bit basic. No vehicles either. Other than that great fun.

Nuclear Renasisance is a interesting rule set but can get bogged down with complicated maths - especially in hand to hand combat. Despite the game being heavily reliant on vehicles the rules are basic.

Necromunda gets a look in every onw and then too as does the daddy of them all - 40K Rogue Trader. I still like the original game and its easy to use for Fallout games.

My Rules - something else I am working on is a set of my own rules. Basically its a mix of the bits I like from various rulesets made to work together. I need to get some stuff bashed out so I can give them a whirl. When I fix my stupid printer!

Other rules I would like to try (and I have) are THWG Chain Reaction2 and Occult Wars (minus all the occult stuff).

Tell me yours....

What can I say - Skank & CZ all the way! The skank set is great, if slightly too lethal - but my rules mods change that slightly . I've also tried a few games of kill zone (free, but nothing any better than the others) and my own home blend rules (2nd ed 40k, mixed with some gorkamorka and about half the rules thrown out.) But these days I use skank primarily for big games & cz for the more balanced affairs I try to run at gamesoc...

Skank Lethal? The Post Apoc world is lethal! :D

Actually Babylons burning has some of the most lethal firepower rules I have ever played. The game is a squad based simulator andcan gett bogged down due to all the rules and tables. However - if you get a a small crowd mobbing a guy with a full auto weapon such as an assault rifle you can gun down 3 or 4 in one burst. BB keeps you on your toes. Never bunch up. Keep to the cover. Always take smoke and frag grenades - and use them (in my opinion grenades are the most missed item in games and yet can keep you guys skins intact so easily).

Personally I really like Warzone for the playability of it and I really like action based systems. What's more apocalyptic than Hellspawn leading Zombies to destroy or enslave the world of man? It's kinda like Doom on steroids; with armies supported by heroic leaders trying to save mankind. At least that's how I see it.

Oooh that sounds tasty! I'll have to check that one out.

I agree about the misuse of grenades in most systems.

Yeah, that's why I have been drawn back into the genre.

You can download the rules for free at the Mutantpedia site. This site is advertised on the Prince August website and they are currently selling the miniatures line, so it must be kosher. UWZ is the most current set of rules.

If you download UWZ you'll need to DL the official FAQ right under it.

Well - its just more of the same sort of things really.. A platoon of infantry forthe tangans, and possibly some more scouts/fire force types, more militia, some more mafrobians if I see 'em cheap on evilbay, more mercs from Brittania & TAG, Tangan police (possibly), PMC boys... And thats before we get to the techncials, merc jeeps, tanks and other stuff...

I tell you - this idea has been building in my mind for years! (just bought the MoFo miniature african militia range and a few more huts from eBay... jungle sceneary is the next thing methinks...)

Yeah, you GOTTA have some good scenery to go with your models I reckon! It is a visual game after all.

Where are you sourcing you vehicles from? What scale?

I'm currently looking at 1/56th, as 1/48th looks way to big if figures aren't on GW bases. As for sources I'm currently looking at Force of arms, Chieftain models, Sloppy Jaloppy & TAG for modern, Bolt action for some WW2 left overs and ebay for some civillian ones....

So they do 1/56? I was under the impression that there was stuff all out there for 1/56...

Nope its a popular enough scale - I'm sure they all do 1/56 modern or post ww2 stuff. (Sloppy do 1/48 pulp era bits, but their moderns are 1/56th.) S&S models do 1/60th, but that strikes me as a bit too much on the small side

although it is going to lweave me with 6 1/48th humvees ,a 1/48 T-70 & an 1/48 Abrams which look to big with everything else... (The tanks I'll use for PA, and I'm not sure about the humvees.... As I said, if the figures are on GW bases they look fine with 1/48th or even 1/43 vehicles)

You could get away with the hummers without a hitch as they're pretty big monstrosities at the best of time.

I was thinking of grabbing a 1/48 Tamia tank (cause I can get that from my local Toyworld) when I grab those Eureka modern bikers and Kriegspiel Aussie troopers.

1/48th tank will go fine... stil not sure aboutthe hummers - I'm going to pick up a 1/56th one to see quite HOW big it really is (my current figures eyes only come up to 1/2 way up the door...)
