So how many of us are Fallout fans? Which is the best in the series? Just how much does it influence our game backgrounds, models, armies and terrain? For me Number 2 is much more fun to play with a more free roaming wasteland filled with post apoc goodness. It influences Mattblackworld quite a bit but then so does so many other things! |

Yup, I'm a Fallout 2 fan, not fanatic, but I love the game as it is. There's just so much character, so many NPC's with 'histories' and feeling. I too love the way you can roam free across the wastes, but it does drag abit after you've been wandering aimlessly. It's sad that the game has an end. Having said that, I've never actually finished the game. I get to the oil rig but then feel the urge to restart, I dunno, probably some sub-conscience thing that the game will lose it's appeal if I ever finish it ![]() I have seen there's mods for the game (Fallout 2) that allow you to make your own encounters and towns etc and place them on the game map. I guess with a bit of work you could remake the entire map with missions of your own devising. That's just speculation though, I'm not sure on the limits the mod has. Influence Bunker29? Hell it started it (that and Red Skulls scratch built Necromunda gang), it's to blame for my addiction to all things PA (sort of, but it's a good enough as any reason ).

Well, actually, once you finish fallout 2's main plot... you can carry on playing ![]() I love the series - as for my favourites; I guess all of them. 1 was truly revolutionary, but I prefer 2 for gameplay mechanics. FoT is also awesome - playing the demo (which consists of different missions to the actual game, so its well worth a look if you're a true geek...sorry..fan like me. If you cant find it anywhere, pm me and I'll send it to you...) is what first got me into the PA genre. I love the squad based design, as well as the interactive vehicles. Its a pity the had to lose so many of the 'fallout world' weapons though, as that lost some of the fell... |

Bad luck... sell it to her on the 'you can chose how your character evolves and changes, and theres lots of different mode of play. From diplomat, to thief or gunslinger, and or all of which can be in-or out-side the law it lets you be who you'd want to be after the world has ended' |

just in case any of you are interested. Fonline from what i understand its basically fallout 2 engine and combines the locations from fallout 1 and 2 and made into an mmo with a crafting system. |

I followed that for a while on NMA when newsposts popped up.. sounds fun, but my connection, and computer suck. Plus, my FO2 disk is somehow screwed, and refuses to install. CURSES! |

Not played Fallout of any version. I lack the patience to play PC games - I get bored and so would rather read a good book - and there aren't many of those around either. ![]() Before Halo came out on the XBOX the last game I played and completed was Doom in the early 90s. The last game I played and competed was Halo 2 in co-op mode with my son. As soon as it came out I bought Halo 3 to play with my son on his 360 - he got bored of waiting and completed it solo. I still haven't started it

ugh never mind about FOnline, its utter trash, the wilderness encounters are nowhere near balanced and combat is realtime, the lag from russian servers means you will get killed while standing on the exit grid for 45 seconds and there are no quests/ missions that i have found. ps: when you die you lose ALL your inventory, so if you do play expect to run around with no gear in a vault city jumpsuit trying to run from everything. |

I liked the spirit and flavor of Fallout 1, but Fallout 2 is just lots more fun to play. Bigger world, more to do in each area, many more weapons to choose from, better NPC interface, and less restrictive time limits. Fallout: Tactics is actually loads of fun if you enjoy guerilla warfare and larger-scale battles. It's almost completely divergent from all established Fallout canon, but that doesn't mean it isn't fun. I haven't played Fallout 3 yet. I don't have a system capable of running the damned thing. I'm waiting for the price on PS3's to drop, because I don't know enough about PCs to buy an appropriate graphics card. |

Cormac McCarthy (author of No Country For Old Men) wrote a book called "The Road" that takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where the number one problem is cannibals. I haven't been able to get my hands on it yet, but I'm told it's amazing. There's always Robert Heinlein's "Farnham's Freehold." Right in the middle of a family dinner, the bombs fall, and the family heads into their fallout shelter. When they emerge, they find themselves in a very different world. It's a little breezy, and vaguely racist, but worth reading. ...and you can't go wrong with "The Postman" by David Brin. The book is five billion times better than that god-awful Kevin Costner movie adaptation. Costner left out a lot, and changed a lot. The book includes a sentient computer, a couple of cyborgs, and a lot more scavenging and looting. The first scene in the book, for example, has the main character running for his life from a couple of garden-variety looters who have stumbled upon his campsite... and he has a fixation with dental care LOL. AWESOME book. |

Yeah, I found it out the hard way as well... Luckily I've learned to backup my saves in the Fallout universe ever since Fallout 1. And the worst part about the ending is that everything up until that point is just freakin' awesome! I mean, I was almost hooked my computerscreen with drops and all just to continue to explore the wasteland... I was so completely in love that when the ending came, everything was just a train-wreck-skirting-along-edges-of-a-nuclear-bomb. It takes some skill to make an ending that's so bad that 40+ hours of entertainment up until that point feels like it had all been for nought. |
