Well, my pancreatitis has acted up so I have nothing to do for the next several days except enjoy a vacation to Percocet Land. I figured that since I'm feeling warm and fuzzy, I might as well try getting some kit-bashing done. I've had several Space Marine Landspeeders sitting about with the intentions of turning them into jeeps/buggies for my various Imperial Guard forces. Having recenty found a number of tutorials (which can be found here) and having a healthy dose of chemically-induced self-confidence, I figured now would be a perfect time to give it a go. Please note: Handling/Using sharp objects such as hobby knives while under the influence of pain-killers is not a good idea. I, however, have many years experience and am able to do it without hurting myself. In other words, I am a trained professional. Do not try this at home. ![]() A before-and-after shot of the Landspeeder hull and Ork Trukk undercarriage. Note that the "after" Landspeeder hull is a newer version which does not have the wings attached to it. ![]() ![]() A top and side view of the undercarriage affixed to the hull. Note that the undercarriage has been further modified from the first picture by having the front axle chopped down a bit. Also note that the "shelf" where the antenae and senor sits on the side of the nose has been removed. More to come... |

Ah drugs and sharp knives. They're either the tools of a great artist or the start to a good survivalist's medical kit. In your case maybe a little of both? |

Update!!!!![]() The Space Marines' legs and butts have been removed. Unfortunately, their butts were hollow which left a large hole in the seats... hence the plasticard to cover it up. The rear axle looks like it sticks out a bit far but I figure once I put the fenders in place, that will cover it up. ![]() The red bit is the nozzle tube from a dead can of compressed air that I used to make a drive shaft. I also glued a portion of the undercarriage back on to the front to make a bumper/ram mount ![]() As you can see, I cut the front axle too short and had to glue bits of it back on which didn't turn out so great. ![]() The top vent housing has been removed and a large square opening cut into the top. The hole was then covered with plasticard into which I intended to cut a circular opening for a hatch and ring mount. (Note to self: Next time, cut the hole for the ring mount BEFORE glueing the plasticard in place. )These next three have the top set in place but not glued down along with the driver and passenger. I still need to attach some fenders as well as a few other bits. ![]() ![]() ![]() Its a bit sloppy and I'll probably just call this one an experiment. Nonetheless, I'm still pretty happy with it thus far. Edited by Sykoholic, Mar 9 2012, 05:44 AM.

Not really. The ones I used are the large rear wheels from a GorkaMorka Buggy. They are smaller than the small front wheels of the new Trukk. They didn't fix onto the axle as it was too thick so I had to improvise.
Bearing two things in mind.... 1) This being my first ever real attempt at a vehicle conversion 2) I was hopped up on painkillers most of the time ...it should be quite clear how easy this actually is... not that I didn't bugger it up in a few places. |

And here you can see the afrementioned buggering....![]() ![]() ![]() Not only could I not cut a straight line when turning the track guards into fenders but I then went and glued them on in the wrong place. I also used too thick of plasticard in addition to gluing the top on before putting the dash in place. I need to get one of those circle cutter tools because trying to cut the hole for the ring turrent was a complete pain in the ass and I made a total mess of it. It is not 100% complete but I'll call it good here. Mistakes were made but now I know what to do and what not to do next time. And there WILL be a next time... especially considering that I need a total of eight of these.

Does a highly altered home-brewed version of NecroMorkaHiem count as GW based? I use GW minis as I please rather than as GW tells me. I have five different Imperial Guard "forces", each represents an opposing faction. So seeing Imperial Guards fighting each other on my table would not be unusual. It don't get much more non-GW compliant than that. One of my WIP "Cadian" forces. ![]() Their intended color scheme... once I figure out how to apply blackwash without ruining the camo. ![]() Four of the five forces (2 Cadian, 1 Tallarn, and 1 Steel Legion) will each be getting two of the Landspeeder Buggies. The fifth force (metal Catachans) will get Halo Warthogs. The Cadians will also get 1 Rhino each while the Tallarn and Catachan each get a Chimera. I haven't found suitable APC for my Steel Legion yet. |
