To kick off my venture into VSF I have decided to start on some Mars Terrain. Of course some of this is going to be useful for my General Sci Fi settings. ![]() The Martian Deserts....A new game mat is made from a cheap fleece throw, covered in splodges of cheap emulsion in the right colours. Car primer overspray adds the extra red effect. ![]() A British Expedition moves across the deserts. The rock formations as cork board broken up and glued together. Some sand, red spray and a dry brush..done! Cheap, easy and quick! ![]() What's this? Strange standing stones! Interesting. These are made from a old Stonehenge model hot glued to CDs. ![]() Major Bloodnok (Retired) and Miss Veronica Tadley pose for pictures by the strange stones. Thanks. It was a pain to do and took a week. It was done in a similar way to my PA/urban mat. I was lucky that we had a pile of tester pots of various shades of beige and terracotta left over from our last decorating spree. So the cost was the fleece (£3.99) and a can of red oxide primer (£4.50). I need to find a new auto factors for my paint.

The PA mat is a 7 x 6 foot sheet. One side is wastelands, the other is urban with a city style street grid painted on. The next time I set up the Big table I will get pictures of both sides naked just for you Inky! That mat has a small tear in it. I accidently cut it when trimming a bit of terrain. I is so soaked in paint that the cut isn't noticeable and hasn't frayed. I may drop some gaffer tape over it on the urban side.

Soon my friend, soon. The Prussian Aether Corps are finished (well nearly 2 more to add to the squad). The Martians are finished. However for a game I will need some fire support for the Martians as they have no ranged weapons at the moment. The Prussians have clock work self loading rifles and a steam powered Gatling. Those Martians will get cut to bits before they even get close. I will have to get more Martians. Or make a diabolical war machine. I have enough minis with the VSF/Colonial feel to pull off a protect the Colony (with a militia) from the Marauding Martians. I am working on much bigger rocky outcrops for the terrain inspired by Borderlands, but in Red/Orange. |
