Rubble Fortress; The Warlord builds his fort

After long deliberation and much rooting through my stored junk I have decided to make a rubble fortress.

A well set up operation such as Vali's had access to some looted heavy machinery (dont forgot to loot those industrial parks kids, you never know what is left there!). Large Slabs of concrete recycled from the ruins where buried upright in the ground and had large piles of dirt stacked at the bottom to secure them. In addition to this metal plates and other scrap is added to the fortress to make it tougher.

So far there will be several 6" sections of wall with a gate and two corner sections allowing a fair bit of flexibility from the set. I am undecided on how high to make them at the moment.

I found a load of 2 x 1" polystyrene packing pieces from a mirror we got last year. These are in the region on 3 to 5 foot long. I will be chopping these to make the dirt piles and some of the rubble walls. Other bits of Polystyrene will be chopped up to make the rest of the rubble walls. I am considering making a couple of scrap wall sections too just for some variety. If time allows I may also make up a watch tower or two.

The walls will be fairly easy to make but the gate section will need some thought, planning and extra detail.

Now where did I leave that hot glue gun?

I have been progressing this slowly. This is where I am up to...

Corner sections

Corner sections with the scrap wall. I need to melt and drill a few holes in that.

The brown section is the textured paint I had spare from the Mars terrain project. It seemed a shame to waste it.

"The GATE! THE GATE!!" The gate needs some holes and detail.

Rear detail of the gate. Needs a wheel to act as a roller. The walls also need some detail added.

See the gate opens too.

This old project is my main focus for now so with a bit of luck by this time next week it will be ready for painting.

Thanks. :D

A little more work has been going on, on the fortress walls. I have been adding holes to the gate and scrap portion. The gate portion is getting some more bits. All it needs now is rivets, gate wheel and firing steps.

I second the stair case... Would be more sensible for a permanent settlement/fortress to have at least one stair case :(|smuggrin:

Ladies and Gentlemen of the Wastelands....I give you...

THE FORTRESS OF DOOOOM!!

This is likely to be pic heavy so brace yerselves.....

I still need to look into building steps, ladders and bridges for the gantries/firing steps. There is a couple of misaligned bits that could benefit from old rusty plates to plug a breach or three. Anyway on with the eye candy!

Um....storage?? :ermm:

I stack them on shelves. Every now and then I get a brain wave and rearrange stuff so I can cram more on there. My other method is large plastic storage boxes. I can happily stack away. The downside is remembering what is where!
