Well, here it is... the start of my attempt at the scenery challenge!

I've started by gathering some insperation pictures from the internet, and thought I'd post them up hereso folks can get a feel for the ideas whizzing around in my head...

This is the basic idea - a corner hill, with a wall/fence/hedge around it. Possibly a double tiered hill (say second teir 6" in from the first edge) instead of a pallisade ontop of a raised mound. Although a ditch would make an assault harder, I'm not sure how useful it will be in terms of modelling. Then there will be shacks/etc inside the top perimeter... although it is tempting to make a whole walled village, alas these pictures, I think it might just be outside my scope (and table size!):

Ideas for the barricade and entery gate (which may be done as a modular piece, so that I can either have a complete wall or a gate as I choose)

I'm currently thinking of having a stone wall for atleast part of the way along (and possibly sub-dividing the top to make an assault harder) , almost certainly up armoured with extra log pallisades and corugated iron. Another option might be to have some rocky outcrops instead of the stone wall... The gateway will be a wooden pallisade, built around a normal farm gate.

If I end up adding a bank to the proceedings, it could end up looking more like these, but on a hillock:

Don't worry folks - I haven't forgotten this. I'm slowly accumulating bags of poly-styrene to make the barricades. My current plans are to make the 'hill' base seperate from the barricades, so I can re-use it to make a dark ages hill fort at some stage.

I've got lots of wood drinks stirrers to cut up to make pallisades, how I just need to find some suitable corrugated card, and a few other odds and ends, and then I can have a crack at it!

Try Hobbycraft or the Works I've picked up big packs of corrugated art card from both at pretty good prices....they do tend to come in rather day-glo colours though

Well... this didn't go anywhere! I'd still like one, but I'm not sure I've got the 'get-up-and-go' to actually build one, atleast not in 28mm. I'm half tempted to build a fortified farm/hamlet for my hoped for/planned Twilight 2000 (20mm) games, of possibly a pallisade/wall I can put around some of my exisitng houses to 'PA' them up a bit.

The 2nd edition TW2K had a map of a fortified farm house in the core book, and I'd probably base it off that (if I go that route). A farm house, barn, tool shed and converted out-building/labourers quaters. I'll scan in the picture at some point. There will probably be a couple of grain storage silos/etc as well (with one as a watch tower). The buildings will almost certainly be converted kits (hopefully plastic, but possibly pre-paints if the price/desperation is right).

Should I go for a defensive ''wall'' I'll be looking to do a mound with a barricade ontop (Maybe with the mound built up behind as a firing platform), probably with a gate, and atleast one Heavy weapon's position. Might also put a concrete/other 'modern' bunker built in at some point...

Go for it. Keep it modular that way you can mix different stuff in.
