My wife got me a Flash Gordon/Buck Rogers looking space ship for Christmas. Now the "Atomic Rangers" in my pulp games have a ride! The problem is, it's made of Plaster of Paris. Is there anything I can use to strengthen it, so it will stand up to gaming wear & tear? |

No idea. A coat of varnish after painting may help. |

Would a coat of white glue strengthen it?. I'm not sure. It might be worth asking around some of the modelling sites. |

Yikes that is a tough call. Make a copy and let the master sit safely on a shelf is my recommendation. |

Drill a hole in it and fill it with expanding foam? Might work. Brian |

I second tinker's idea. Make a thin 2 part latex or silicone mold supported by a plaster mothermold, then use expanding polyurithane resin to cast a duplicate. it will be a LOT lighter and more durable than a large plaster piece. |

Short of re-casting it in resin; superb idea, I would combine the advice from several members: 1) If it is hollow, fill it w/ expanding foam 2) Coat it with several coats of watered down wood glue; it is much harder than white glue. The glue will get into the plaster and strengthen it. That's a little trick for you terrain makers, too, if you cast in Plaster of Paris. Put in a bit of glue when mixing the plaster. |

Excellent ideas all, I would go with the wood glue and maybe a thick varnish layer after.Molding would be a great alternative and I second the brush on stuff, perfect for such a project.Good luck! |
