Hi all, My name is Andy... but as you can all see I go under the sobriquet of Pint Glass Crusader! The story behind this is too long and beer-sodden to relate now... but perhaps at some other time. I first found out about this forum from membership to the Songs of Blades & Heroes forum. however, for my sins, I mostly play Warmachine/Hordes which has a bit more of a post (or is it during) apocalyptic fell to it... so this forum intrigued me! As you may have seen I like making stuff... I posted a number of tutorials for making things on the terrain thread. While I'm focused on Warmachine/Hordes at the moment, I love any sort of science-fantasy game and Steampunk/Pulp Action stuff gives me that peculiar thrill that only the wife and the though of a night out on the lash can provide... This seems like a nice, genuine forum, with a friendly crowd, so I can see myself hanging around for a bit. So I'll post stuff as it comes to mind... feel free to criticise, commend or condemn as you see fit... I'm a decent guy with a thick skin... Cheers! Pint Glass Crusader [Andy to his friends] |

Skirmish games keep the number of figures and amount of terrain down, and "periods" like PA, VSF, Pulp, etc. let the players scrounge the dollar stores and discount bins for goodies to bash into useful gaming pieces - like vehicles. And don't be too proud to dumpster dive, which also helps keep the cost down. As for time, you're on your own. The only place I run into real trouble is that you can never have enough zombies... |

Being able to pic up odds and ends all over the place is defiantely the advantage of more esoteric skirmich settings. Plus you generally don't need so manyfigures, and certainly for PA/pulp/VSF you can be quite creative in your choices - giving a unique looking fore and setting without costing the earth thanks to evilbay |

I have to agree that there is sooo much to choose from games wise - but its also worth remembering that PA can be applied to any genre not just modern and sci-fi. So no matter what minis and terrian you have it can be used for a struggle for survival in a hostile world. Keeping it on the cheap is easy as Raven and Xander said. Raid rubbish bins and skips at work, beg at super markets for old foamboard signs and visit the cheapo stores for cheap toys to convert. |

One PA setting which isn't usualy touch upon (as far as I know ) in gaming is the 'long-ago-war' type setting, where the world has reverted back to a more primitive level (equivalent of 1700's? ECW? High Medieval? Dark ages?) with legends about the ancient sky gods or the stange monsters which exist on the black-glass plains. This can also involve elements of high/low fantasy due to new species (mutations?) occuring due to high back ground radiation in some palces, as well as 'magical' artefacts of the gods ( the rod of light' is a common torch/flashlight, whilst the 'stick of light' could be some sort of emergancy kit solar charged laser weapon) A John Wyndham book (The Chrisalyids?) used this sort of idea, with a world not disimilar to the pilgrim fathers of america. Some Gamma world stuff i've seen takes this approach, as does the occasional campaign for darwin's world - but these tend to be for quite remote tribal/savage factions. The Mortal engine series by Phillip Reeve does a similar sort of thing, but uses a very steampunk world instead of the more archaic ones I've just mentioned. Hi Chesty - welcome. you are not the only girly on here - Furrygothmother is here too (my good lady). She thinks the wastelands and mutants should be pink, purple, black and furry. Kind of like a muppets post apocalyptic world! We all look forward to the magic you can work with the site. |

Hey Bungle, welcome to the lighter side of madness. When you said 'smaller scale' do you do 15mm or 6mm PA stuff? |

Hi Bungle - welcome to the loony bin. I have to admit that 15mm is tempting. What do you do for vehicles? The lack of cheap toy to wreck - ahem "convert!" is what puts me off! |

Hi Bungle - 15mm keeps tempting me, particularly for modern era stuff. But I keep resisting as everything else I own is 28mm, and so is all my scenary... |
