I recently picked up some plastic Forge Fathers and Dwarfs from Mantic Games. They are pretty nice and have gotten me excited about a Dwarf gang. I've already earmarked a Space Marine Rhino for them. I'm planning to build a claw arm to mount on it. They really need another transport (or two), though. I want something that will be in keeping with the feel of Dwarfs. Pretty cheap too, no more than $10.00 (5-6GBP) These are my thoughts so far (all Ramshackle): Badger Degu Ram Stoat Quad Skeeta Any input on these possibilities? Any other suggestions? |

The skeeter would work well. What are the dwarves like? Are they a similar size to the old 40k squats? |

The Dwarfs are really nice, but not a lot of variety. The sci fi dwarfs (Forge Fathers) use the same 2 leg sections and some of the same heads as the fantasy dwarf Iron Watch and Shieldbreaker sets. Some extra kit and different paint schemes should make for distinct gang members though. Forge Father Steel Warriors sprue Forge Father Veterans (resin) Forge Father Leader (metal) Dwarf Ironclad Command sprue Dwarf Ironclad trooper sprue Dwarf Shield Breakers sprue Dwarf Iron Watch sprue I've got some of each so I can have a good mix of weapons in the gang. The Iron Watch cross bows should be super easy to convert to shotguns. I think some of the GW Dwarf arms might work too, for even more options. They are similar to the old squats. Less round in the middle, more evenly distributed. The arms and weapons are similar too. Mantic tends to not be as chunky as modern GW and more like GW arms and weapons 20 years ago. The only complaint I have is that where the front of the torso meets the back/cape, they don't match up well. The top overhangs the lower part. Could be ignored or fixed with GS though. The Marauders (Mantics version of space orcs) are very nice too. They are very close in size and posture to the old Gorka Morka Orks. They come in 2 sizes too, good for making Yoofs. They are also compatible with their fantasy orcs (reusing the same bodies, again). Now I'm torn between using Mantic or GW for my post apoc O.R.C.s @ Inkie, I'm not sure about bikers. On the one hand, that's very old school Squat, bikes are great for PA settings and they're just cool. On the other hand, I'm not sure bikes are really in keeping with the dwarf theme. Worst of all is finding or modifying a bike so that a Dwarf can ride it and not look silly (I'm not paying ebay prices for actual Squat bikes). Edit: Forgot one big bonus point. The dwarfs and Forge Fathers come with tons of big hammers. The shield breakers come with multiple hammer head options. The extras can be stuck on brass rod, plastic tubes, GW spears, etc to make even more hammers. I love hammers, but could never find enough. Now I've got plenty to equip non-dwarf gangs, too. Honestly, I never liked the dimensions on the Salvage Dog. It's shape is weird. I can't really describe what bothers me. The Ramshackle stuff looks way better. |
