Ok, well I've been stewing on my fantasy figures and gaming. I definitely want to carry on with my Dark age stuff, but I'm also being tempted by some more typical 'high' fantasy and late medieval stuff. I'm currently leaning towards a rules-set which can be used for both... has anyone had any experiance of Hordes of the things? Edited by v_lazy_dragon, Aug 10 2011, 03:55 PM.

Not yet Tink, but I'm planning to. The other idea I had was to play SOBH, but with larger 'unit' bases counting as 'figures' |

Yes, I have played HOTT a fair bit. I like them. They are fun and pretty simple. Do you have any particular questions? Hugh |

IN THE NAME OF ALL THAT'S HOLY: IF YOU MUST GET HOTT, GET THE SECOND EDITION! It's translated from Barkerese into English. And it's free -> www.wrg.me.uk/HISTORY/HOTT2.pdf It's 16.59 Megs, so it may take a while to download. Other options: Song of Blades and Heroes - pretty good game PDF for only USD$5.00, but the stick measuring mechanic got old fast. One Page Fantasy Skirmish (modified) - It's what I currently use for Viking games and - wait for it - it's free! Edited by RavenFeast, Jul 28 2011, 06:25 PM.

A long time ago, I tried to translate HOTT 1st edition from Barkerese to Casual American Gamer. I figured I could write code for programming in COBOL II and RPG 3, so how hard could it be? I gave up. Of course, that was back in high school, before the interwebz was available commercially. And we walked 100 miles uphill through ten feet of snow. Both ways! And battled commie allosauruses from space the whole time. Dern kids have it easy today with their cellphones, end of the cold war and global warming. Git off my lawn! |

Thanks guys - I've got the 2nd edition downloading now. I've had some issues getting into SOBH, tried it several times... and it's never really worked for me. Not sure why, but there it is. I'm also thinking about going down the 'unit basing' route, although that will be a first for me. Heck, I may even try writing my own if I don't on with hott. |

She usually plays with mine ![]() I'll probably just build a few forces from the Era, and she can field one of those, as can any other folks I game against... Here's todays WiP: not much progress, just painted some bones on some a base of Ghouls, as I was a bit distracted (see the Quar thread...) ![]()

All the ghouls now have the bones painted in, and their various scars/scratches added. More updates over the weekend (hopefully!) @ Brian - Thanks for the comment. I'd be interested to hear your comments on HoTT when you play it |
