I have a box of the new 40L Dark Eldar Wytches I was going to Post Apoc until Tinker put into my head the thought of them as a VSF race of Aliens (Venusians).

Staring at my mini pile I discovered that I still have some Warzone Plastic Bauhaus. Would these work for VSF? I suppose I could add some cogs to the guns for that VSF look.

Or could I blag with these guys?

It is great to see these miniatures still popping up all over the place.

They are nice ones, you could always give them a Prussian blue repaint? They definitely look the business.

I have some left over. So I will be painting them in these colours. Having scouted around LAF it seems they are popular for this setting. A popular modification is to add a wheel to the gun.

I also have some old grots from a early 40K game with a pickle helmet. I may draft them in as Alien recruits to the Prussian army.

Yes, they would work - painted in period colors:

Danny,

Try to bag a box of those individual Dark Eldar Fliers they should be great for aerial combat versus any Aeronefs ya build. Once I can get money rolling in again I intend to buy a box myself for that very same reason.

But seeing my gaming will mostly be in the solo arena for now I'll just go 18mm paper constructs and minitures.

Al,

Nice link, that will be of great help for me!

I was thinking the same thing this morning. :D I have some Copplestone or Foundry Colonial Brits in the clean up and repaint pile. I will be getting some Ramshackle gas mask heads and convert them to VSF Brits.

Al - great link, thanks!

After some thought I am going to use the Dark Eldar as Martians. It also means that terrain will be easier with my current collection.

I think GW 40K Kroot and GW Lizardmen Skinks would make nice Venus factions. One day I will get some Jungle terrain knocked together as I still have the stalled MULP project - Loco Island.

The specific Dark Eldar I feel best to represent the fliers are Hellions

With as little as a change of colours and some tubing, commonly found items (well, if you're a miniature wargamer) may be reworked into VSF.

I bought in the time a of money two boxes of Kroot for the use in VSF as Parrotmen. And from another time I stumbled onto a great Lizardman deal of plus 100 skinks mostly painted, Lizardmen, and a painted Slann for $25.

The skinks are all of the poison arrow variety, not a single spear toter in the bunch. The relevance of that characteristic is that a chap on the Lead Adventurers Forum used the extra arms from the Kroot sprues and glued them onto the Skinks.

All of which still moldering under dust of my ideas.

For your Dark Eldar; there isn't any reason why detachments Martian Askari can't accompany their Regiments to Venus, or vis-a-versa. I don't believe that Mars was fought first and then Venus, or even in the MBG VSF scheme that it matters.

<Al, You experience may need to be heard just to know what in the "VSF" history is true regarding Mars and Venus.>

Sorry to hear about the MULP delay, it will come about after your head explodes a couple times in the future.

They should work really well for a vsf type setting - particularly as elite assault troops or something of that ilk.

Truth? Just like in real life, it's whatever you believe it is. Or, in this case, what rule system/author you use. Heck, just make up your own myths!

Here are some pretty standard VSF conventions for Mars & Venus found in fiction and games:

Mars – When looked upon by a telescope on Earth, it had some odd lines on its surface, which gave us…

Red (or butterscotch) sand covered the surface with some vegetation growing only along the edges of the canals. The natives are intelligent and advanced, but their culture may be in decline as they battle the ever expanding deserts of their dying world by trying to redirect their ever-dwindling water resources from the frozen poles. The Martians are of two races: the first being homicidal cuttlefish that do not need to be in water. The second race is humanoid, and, despite having skin tones not naturally found on Earth and/or bony ridges, spurs or other protuberances, is blessed with hawt females who are perpetually scantily clad or outright nekkid, and usually require rescuing by human male adventurers. The Martian humanoids come in two flavors: city dwellers and steppe nomads. The wildlife is suited to the arid surface and is unanimously hostile.

Venus - When looked upon by a telescope on Earth, nothing of its surface could be discerned as the atmosphere was completely cloudy, which gave us…

A lush, primordial swamp planet filled with all sorts of dinosaurs. The intelligent lifeform is reptilian, though usually primitive with crude huts and bone spears. They may have had an advanced civilization in the distant past, but all its wonders have disappeared, lost until discovered by human adventurers. Alternate/competing intelligent lifeform could be plant people and/or fish people, though either equally primitive or they maybe advanced, but few in number and avoiding the reptiles and human adventurers.

Observation: Mars. It has lines. Conclusion: dying civilization with lots of exotic babes.

Observation: Venus. It’s really cloudy. Conclusion: dinosaurs.

Or, make up your own myths!

Oh, believe you me that my myths are the concoction of what the voices say and dreams relay. That is a solo gamers rule isn't it? It is not what your opponent may claim, or the Game Master may quote, it is the player whom calls all the shots.

How is it that I always forget VSF can have the American West elements too...

Doctor Miguelito Quixote Loveless was my Favorite Character in the Wild Wild West TV series. And I have 28mm Western Figures to use... Wow, what if Gun Runner's supplied the American Indians with Winchesters, Whiskey, and Steam Walkers?

a.k.a. "cowpunk" :(|grin:

Pinnacle did a wargame "Great Rail Wars" and an rpg called "Deadlands". You can still buy the figures: http://www.jeffvalentstudios.com/store/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=10 Unfortunately, their site was hacked a few days ago and is in the process of rebuilding.

I have been giving a bit of thought to this project...again!

I will go for Mars as the first planet Earth Colonises. I will have to keep an eye open for a red-brown bed sheet. :D

I am thinking that the Brits and Prussians both have colonies. There will also be a few independent colonies too. That will take into account my spare Warzone figures, colonial British I got from flea bay years ago and my wild west figures (operating as PA wastelanders). For above ground Martians I am thinking about Dark Eldar and some old Elf minis I have. No idea about the skin colour for these yet. Any ideas?

I may introduce some underground alien races - so I can use my gobbos too.
