This model represents one of the most typical vehicles of Wastelands, the buggy. My idea was to create a fast and manouverable vehicle capable to deal sugnificant damage at the same time. The problem was to find an appropriate basis. But not long ago, while browsing a local hobby shop, I came accross a funny toy made by a Russian Technolog company (here is the prototype). This toy was much larger than 28 mm scale (in fact, it was very close to 1/35), but nevertheless I bought it. At least, 3 USD isn't a price for an attempt. OK, the size of the vehicle isn't a big problem - it is a great opportunity. First of all I removed anything that could bring back the original scale of the model. Then I conceptually divided the central part into two - driver's compartment and gunner's compartment. I've started with the first. I made a seat, a dashboard and a handle bar of plastic and wire, but left original gear unit. I glued (and riveted!) three sheets of plastic - armor plates - in front of and behind the central part. Gunner's compartment was a more challenging issue. I decided to cover the floor with an anti-slippery plate (a chocolate wrapping). A box for ammunition was made of staple clips. The ring mount was made of plastic (perfect Evergreen plastic helped me a lot) and thick wire. The front armor plate - thick alluminium foil. My buggy is armed with 7.62 mm LMG (remanufactured Flak 38 gun in 1/72 scale made by Zvezda) and short semi-automatic grenade launcher (remanufactured M2HB HMG in 1/72 scale, the barrel is made of syringe needle). Both weapons are mounted and operated separately. The main tactical role of the vehicle is using its speed and manouvarability to came close to a caravan and suppress the escort with array of bullets and grenades. That's why the vehicle doesn't carry much armor (though all the plates are 15 mm thick) - unlike the gun truck it isn't designed for a long fire-fight. ![]() ![]() ![]()
