I've seen people posting cool vehicles with scales ranging from approximately 1:43 to 1:60... So, since I'm using Games Workshop WH40K minis (I'm in love with them) what scale should I be looking at in toy and/or model cars? Initially my minis were going to be all Fallout-specific, and accordingly I wasn't really looking at vehicle purchases... but lately I've been itching to re-create some of the vehicles from Mad Max 2 (best post-apoc film ever, IMHO) and to create vehicles with a similar look and feel... I've roughly estimated that an "in-scale" car for these minis would be around two inches wide, and about four inches long. I've got an old Transformer lambo (Sideswipe!) that fits those dimensions, and it looks about right, maybe a tiny bit small. Hard to say. I havent really handled any GW vehicles so I'm not sure how my estimates hold up. Edited by Ninjamonkey73, Feb 3 2011, 07:07 AM.

I have used 1:50 to 1:43 scale vehicles with my figures. The problem lies with the scale. Often it is to suit the packaging and not accurate. Ebay can be your friend in finding cars but beware the packaging and seller can be wrong. I have ended up with some out of scale vehicles that way. I would recommend taking a mini along to scale it. Remember that most cars reach up to mid chest to shoulder level height on a average sized person. Also make sure your mini has a base as the bases makes the mini look larger. If you have the cash 1/48 military kits work well with 28mm and GW scale figures. |

I agree with mattblackgod. I have a lot of vehicles for my 28mm figures. Most of them are in 1:43 scale because is a very common scale (very easy to find everywhere and every model of car you imagine exist in 1:43). I usually go to the chinese cheaposhop because they sell cheap 1:43 cars (are not the best detailed, but enought to make cool post-apocalyptic or abandoned in the road cars) and cost only 2€ each (aprox 2,5$). Also you can use vehicles for 25mm scale. Maybe looks small because the WH40K vehicles are too big, but fits well. I show you an example. This is the "army" of a friend of mine (is not an army, is a Police department) the vehicles of the photos are all in 25mm scale and the miniatures are 28mm. Fits nicely ![]() |

I use 1:43-1:50. Some manufacturers offer 1:56 scale kits which they say are 28mm scale, but I find these too small. Also Siku offers 1:55 models and these are IMO too small too. The 1:50 scale is common for model trucks (and also die-cast military vehicles) and because they are trucks (large) I find this scale works. For cars 1:43 usually works, though small cars (Mini's, VW bugs, Renault Twingo's) tend to look better than large cars (I have some Hummer H2's and they seem pretty huge). The 1:48 is common for military kits and seems to work too. Since 1:43 is so common for regular cars and 40k models are bulky I'd go with that unless you see a nice model which looks right in a different scale. |

Are not printys, most of them are resin models from GZG very modified and a WH40K old rhino. |

Hi.... Well the guys have said it all. I try to use 1;50 scale or take along a 28mil mini to test size in the toy and bargin stores. I've done some vehicle conversions in the past for Orks in 40k and for these I would recomend 1;43 scale or 1;48. Any thing smaller than this just seems too small, but that's just my own opinion. I would go along with the " test mini " idea because even some set scale vehicles can be way off and this varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. The best 28mm vehicles for me are made by Carramara/hongwell, Lone star or matchbox Superkings, the Superkings vehicles range includes some futuristic looking stuff which will fit in well with 40k. Good luck.... |
