Yesterday I've made my first attempt at terrain sculpting, building two 15mm-scale bunkers from a locally-available air-hardening clay called Ceramix. The first one came off better than the second, IMHO, but I'll be learning from my mistakes: practice makes perfect! ;)

Here they are, with two 15mm Rebel Minis Earthforce Marines for scale:

Nice start. What is the material like to work with?

What are surface are the pictures taken on? It has a nice broken concrete/rubble look to it.

This clay is very easy to work with, very easy to shape, not too sticky, and can be smoothed/welded by water, which is a big pro. It is also water-soluble, so cleaning up after work is extremely easy. The only problems it has are that it isn't very elastic (and thus gentle details might break - I'll add Green Stuff to my beholder once it will be shipped to me to strengthen the eye-stalks) , and that it doesn't necessarily work well with very fine cravings. It is perfect for anything with a concrete or stone feel, but isn't too good for organic shapes and sharp mechanical items.

Oh, and it's DIRT CHEAP. A 500gr package costs 13.9 NIS, which are about $3.6. It is also available locally, so no shipping costs!

The surface is the ledge of my balcony, with quite typical local tiles (I chose the balcony for natural illumination as this is a very sunny day).
