Great game, I hope they do the same with Twilight 2000 someday. |

I thought the original version of Twilight 2000 pretty much became 'free' after they released Merc. 2000? I know they re-released T2000 later, but with a lot of changed content. But, getting back to the topic, thanks Tink! Never got a chance to look at Traveller, so I'll definitely give it a good once over. |

Definitely download it - it's one of the best sci-fi RPGs out there! It might look unappealing in its Classic version (too much text and tables, not enough art), but once you get to know it, it works really, really well; for instant, once you get a grip on the chargen system, you can generate a complete character in five minutes or so! And your character sheet is essentially three or four rows of text, and a ship's stats are nothing more than a paragraph. I have this from the previous free release, as well as the 9-books-in-1 Reprint in hardcopy, the 3-books-in-1 Reprint in hardcopy, and Mongoose Traveller in hardcopy. Great RPG. Oh, and Traveller, while it could be played mapless, is designed to work VERY well with 15mm figures. And Traveller: New Era has some great advice about painting minis, from which I've learned A LOT. It's definitely of a different era though, try releasing a RPG where you can die during character creation these days, people wouldn't have it! I really liked how little control you had over making a character though, you often ended up with someone you probably wouldn't have chosen but who had a ready made background.

So, it's a pretty crunchy system? Yeah, definitely downloading, even if only for the ideas. |
