I have my first fleet I have built for Star Crashers. Introducing the Tengun Empire Fleet...so far... For Tengun background see my Space Opera Thread ![]() This is the Fighter Squadron. They are made from plastic missiles from a Robogear model, a bead for the engine and rhinestone for the cockpit. In Full Thrust (FT) they will be used as Corvettes. ![]() The Bombers. These are made up from three Robogear missiles, two beads and two Rhinestones. In FT they will be used as Frigates. ![]() A Grabber Ship and Scout. Both ships are made the same way as the fighters. The Grabber got a grabber from a Robogear model and the Scout's "Golfball" Sensor array is a bead. ![]() On the Left is the Battleship (a converted Cruiser) "Big George's Fist" and on the Right the Cruiser "Snot-em". The Battleship is made from a plastic bottle cap, a large plastic holder (for a syringe), Rhinestones, bits of straws, plastic caps, GW las guns, bits of toy cars and tanks. The Cruiser is made from a old broken action man fire extinguisher, a plastic tube, a bottle cap, plastic beads, plastic missles and other bits. In Ft the Battleship would be a Dreadnought class vessel and the Cruiser a Battleship. ![]() A Freighter being escorted by Snot-em! The hull is from a old model space station and a golf ball. Lots of beads, old tank parts and rhinestones found their way onto the model. The Tengun fleet needs another Cruiser or two and a carrier. Lets see what time brings eh? I thought I got a entire Fleet shot. It seems to have vanished! ++EDIT++ I found the picture - dratted photobucket is playing silly buggers and missing photos...Grrr. ![]() This is my favourite ships so far....the Pirate Cruiser... ![]() ![]() It looks like it wants your money, your wife and your first born child. It was a Revell easykit pocket Star Wars Sith infiltrator. I took off the wing tip panels (they are now fitted to the Freighter) and added a couple of Robogear missiles. I them added lots of guns from a 1/1200 scale model warship. It got my pirate paint job. This vessel will be used as a Heavy Battleship in FT. In all a fun set of builds in which a learnt much. The downside is that I slapped a bit too much superglue gel about on a couple of the ships giving them a scabby and snotty look. Maybe I should paint it up as rust. I think keying plastics may be a way forward in the construction process and I may need less glue. C&C welcome. Edited by mattblackgod, Nov 7 2010, 10:59 PM.

Its amazing how easily most of us are distracted, its a wonder we get anything done. I am currently holding off going into complete terrain mode, finishing my half started factions or building fleets of post apoc hotwheels cars....

Those look good, thanks for explaining how you made them. Could you include a US dime in one of the photos so we can get a sense of size? |

A dime? errrrrmmmm! I dont think I have one. Does anyone know of a similar sized UK coin? I suspect a 10p might be a similar size. Of course I am also open to receiving dimes from any one who wants to send them to me, along with signed blank cheques.... A rough rule of thumb for these is the fighters are about 1" long, bombers 1.5", the cruisers around 3.5", the freighter about 4.5" and the battleship 5.5". The small ships are smaller than SC builds but for some reason the larger ships came out longer.

Time for a update - these little beauties where made up before Xmas. I have been mad busy since then. First up - a Space Station - a vital part of any space game. This will probably be used as a objective. ![]() ![]() It is made up from various sized bottle tops, some solar panels from a 1/76 space station kit and bits from the bits box. Next up the last Tengun Cruiser... ![]() ![]() What is space without random lumps of rock - Asteroid! ![]() Made from a lump of that spray foam you use to fill cracks. Easy work. Blue Demons Cruiser ![]() This ship is fast and acts as a escort or interceptor. The ship was a 1/144 scale Eurofighter Typhoon kit with bits added. Swabia Fighter The German speaking Space Nation of Swabia is noted for its lack of tolerance to anyone breaking their laws or attacking its citizens. Add to this well armoured and armed ships it makes Swabia a force to be reckoned with. ![]() This was a multi-melta off a plastic GW Titan. I glued some bits to it. I have another couple some place. Junkers... The Junkers are Space Scavengers with operate in the Galaxies debris fields and old battle fields. Here we see three fighters ![]() ![]() And a scout and grabber ![]() ![]() Out in space there are many Merchant Adventurers...once such Vessel is the Cruiser sized Space Yacht the Purple Avenger of a man called Scouse. The ship has upgraded engines, extra armour, weapons and some other surprises for anyone stupid enough to attack it! ![]() ![]() ![]() The ship came from a Kinder Toy as some sort of speed yacht. All I added was the engines and weapons. It then got a nice layer of purple paint. |

Thanks. My motto is dont throw anything out. I still have some of those plastic missiles from the Robogear models. I have some metal ships to add from Kallistra and GW. I also need to get my star mat done so I can play a game or three. I suppose I could use my Wastelands mat and pretend its a smog cloud!

I looked at all the pics like I always do before reading the text and thought they were all ships you'd purchased, can't say better than that! Very creative stuff, never chuck anything out especially action men fire extinguishers! |

Thanks to the Josiah Trenchard novels by Jonathon Fletcher and the Privateer novel byWilliam Zellmann my Sci Fi creative juices have been flowing. My Wild Galaxy setting has been getting expanded and further detailed. More of that at a later date. I have been considering a new blog to cover the Wild Galaxy setting. For now my creative juices are focused on getting the 1:3000 scale star fleets I have ready for action. Looking at the fleet I built for the Star Crashers game a couple of years back they are at least two classes in larger in Full Thrust. The fleet for the Tengun Empire would have 1x Super Dreadnought, 1 Heavy Dreadnought, 2 Heavy cruisers, 2 destroyers and 6 Frigates. That is pretty much a killer fleet in FT. Too powerful for a small pirate nation. So some of them will be becoming other faction vessels. All of them will be getting extra detail as I found them a bit plain. The project will see the construction of new scratch built ships, wrecks, asteroids and other space terrain. First up for your viewing a Frigate and Destroyer from the Rim Independents nations. These are often single independent worlds or stations which rely on each other for mutual protection from the Galactic Nations & Blocks. As such fleets are often rag tag in appearance featuring vessels from many manufacturers and in some cases converted civilian or merchant vessels. These are Full Thrust UNSC ships. As the Independents fleets are often rag tag in appearance they have adopted black and white stripe markings for identification purposes. These are just the start. Lots more to follow. |
