I've recently picked up a couple of 1/40 civilian Hummers for $5.00 each. They look like this:![]() I want them to look more like this: ![]() I'm not going for an exact conversion, just something more near-future military. I already plan to: -paint over the side window to the rear -paint over the sun roof and add a handle making it look like a hatch -add the metal loops/rings to the hood (what are those anyway?) -put a spare tire and jerry can on the back -put a wire frame around the side mirrors Some things I need input on: -Should I put a post down the center of the windshield? It's curved, not flat like the military version and I'm afraid it will look odd. -Where can I find 1/35, 1/40, or 1/43 bull bars and winches to add to the front? -Should I remove the luggage rack from the roof? -Should I paint them olive drab or desert khaki? I like desert khaki, but the game mat is desert and I don't want to over do the color, plus I'm not sure if olive will look more military. And no, I don't have the talent or time to do full blown camo. Any advice appreciated. Edited by consectari, Nov 8 2010, 08:07 PM.

I see vehicles similar to this at Kroger stores all the time but I never take a figure with me... And of recent months there isn't the extra cash to buy one even if they were proper size. We have recently lost a majority of our savings due to a heat exchanger failure on the furnace... time to buy a new one. Especially with those lake effect snows coming down from the Great Lakes region due to strange weather... we normally get a west to east weather systems not North to South! Whether they match depends on taste. Alot of people prefer their vehicles to be "in scale" with figure height. Problem is most 28mm-ish minis are much bulkier than their real world counterparts. To me, vehicles scaled to mini height look like they can't handle the minis bulk. Therefore, I tend to like my vehicles oversized, especially when it comes to military stuff that should look intimidating. Of course, I'm not shy about using a smallish vehicle if I really like it and can't find a bigger version. I'm fairly flexible. I use minis from 25mm up to 35mm. In short, they are on the large side. |

Remove the windshield and make one up from plastic card. Could Bull Bars be made from wire? |

Brilliant! I hadn't thought of that.
Possibly, I'm just not sure I can do it. I'm OK at making rough cut armor and such for PA vehicles, but when it comes to making it look neat, not so much. I did manage to find a couple of dollar store cars with usable bull bars (and some other parts I can use for other projects). Just need to round up a couple more. |

Man those conversions are seriously cool! Well done! You have a Post Apoc force right there. A Enclave scouting force, or Brotherhood of Steel type force....or maybe a set of Rangers like the NCR...or a Road Patrol keeping the trade routes and towns under a bunker cities protection safe from mutants and raiders! |

Umm, I think there is a misunderstood. These awesome Hummers are not mine, are of a friend that has an Imperial Guard scout force full of hummers like these ones. I will ask him for details of how made them. I only know the cars are from the manufacturer Kinsmart and some others from Maisto with hand-made armos plates and some bits of Imperial Guard vehicles and military equipment in 1/35 scale But thanks anyway As soon as I have time I will make a topic of my own modified vehicles in vehicle WIP section (I have a lot of them) Edited by Junkers, Feb 4 2011, 12:09 AM.

that style civvies hummer is a hard one to convert part due to it being an h2 and the one in military use is H1 but adding brush bars and armour plates and you should have a decent upfitted wasteland hummer those hummers in the pics look like the H4 concept which was used in the second transformers move as a mil spec hummer as well as gi joe if i recall correctly |
