So as more and more of my stuff comes together to make a town, I wondered what you all used for making roads? how wide do you make your roads? if it is a multi-lane road, how wide is each lane? Edit - As a side note I am doing basically 28mm Edited by KevinMc, Oct 25 2010, 03:26 AM.

This is something I have been experimenting with a little bit. I have made road sections out of corrugated cardboard from boxes but I have found it warps too much especially the longer sections. You could make road section out of foam board. It will warp but you can make decent looking pavements/side walks. Another thought is to use funky foam sheets that you can pick up in craft shops. It is quite thin and so far doesn't seem to warp. I am only using it for wasteland roads at present however I may get to trying putting pavements on them too. There is also this method: Roads I tend to make mine about 8" wide with some dirt at the sides. 6" of road space, enough for two large vehicles to pass each other. |

Long time back someone did an article on roads made from sandpaper adhered to 1/8" masonite. Spray adhesive, stenciled road markings, drybrush, then sealed with matte varnish to pre-empt scratching. Looked remarkable. My web-fu is weak at the mo... can't locate a link. |

Thanks for all the good input. You would of thought I would of considered roads before now, but I never worried about it for Wild West gaming. The cork idea makes some incredible roads, though I do also like the mat as it stores very easily. |

As promised............![]() These are 18inches long, each lane is 3 inches wide and they are cut down the middle so you can do this........... ![]() So a double lane is 18 long and 6 wide.I made them out of some plexiglass a friend gave to me.Cut to size with a plexiglass cutter, spray paint matt black, and made a template so i could spray on the white and yellow lines.I didnt do any weathering or make any curves yet because i got lazy. They came out ok me thinks. Then i also made these at the same time.......... ![]() The road on the left are the plexiglass ones, the road on the right are 3mm thick Funkyfoam like Mattblackgod suggested. The two things i did different when making these is both sides were painted black to prevent warping and the lines on the road are some kind of stickers for puting on remote control planes. The foam roads do curl a little at the edges but over all look good and match up with the plexiglass roads well. Hopes that helps some. Brian |

Mr Clean: Nicely done! I really like the idea of plexiglass, it is light and strong, and as you point out doesnt warp with paint. Have to mull all these ideas over, won't be starting anything like this on roads for a few weeks, mostly so I can catch up and get a payday in again. |

They look nice and PA! I was going to follow Ross' lead on roads but they are a bit of a bugger warping when drying. How did you do it again? |

Thanks fellas ![]() Dan, stuck 4lt paint cans and blocks of wood on 'em while they dried. Had to make sure I used a very very thin layer of white glue though I'm thinking a spray adhesive would do a better job. I'm kinda scared to go out into the shed and check on them, it's been a very wet winter here (both my old computer chairs in the shed have mold on them) and it's bound to be a hot steamy then exceptionally dry summer. Sooooo I'm expecting they going to warp like a bitch. |
