I missed this thread earlier; very impressive. Regarding your weathering technique. You can achieve the same results by using course salt, w/o the resultant risk of...smelly...results. Wet down the model with a mister, apply the salt, allow the water to dry, then apply the top layer of paint. Use a stiff brush to scrape away the salt and viola, rust spots. If you want a more sand blasted look, spray the model with hair spray (the cheaper the better), and use the same technique to remove the top layer of paint. This is how scale modelers get that look of white camo paint chipping off tanks and such. I have seen both work very well. |

Thanks, no more for now though. The yellow took three coats of spray paint. It was a smelly business but beats trying to do it with a brush anyday 8) Legionnaire> Thanks! Pauix> The loose barrels are from Fenris Games: http://stores.ebay.com/Fenris-Games Just search the store for "barrels". I got one set of HAZMAT barrels and one set of nuke waste barrels. I also got the fuel drums which are slightly snmaller but they are not in any of the pictures as I haven't painted them yet. The blue barrels in the Ford Transit are a single resin piece by Scotia Grendel: http://www.scotiagrendel.com/Products/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=59_62&products_id=595 The large collections of grey barrels (not the loose ones) in the background are from Tablescape: http://www.tablescape.co.uk/Catalogue/Industrial/IndustrialRange.htm "SFIND005 - Oil Barrels." These are pretty large, similar in size to 1:35 oil drums and Warhammer 40k barrels. Fantasy Fixtures> Thanks for the tips, I've seen the hairspray method but it always left me fearing that I would rub off too much paint. The salt trick seems perfect for small spots but less so for larger areas of rust. I think next time I will try the hairspray technique as I think it allows for more control on where the paint is 'scraped' off. |
