As my (so far hypothetical) PA setting would probably take place somewhere between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea, my next miniature purchase would probably be a platoon or so of infantry to represent remnant Russian troops. As my nuclear apocalypse occurred in 2037 (the game takes place in 2072), gear for second-echelon troops would probably still resemble contemporary (2010)circa gear, while first-echelon troops would have somewhat futuristic gear (probably sealed suits, maybe even hard suits); the platoon would possibly be a mixture of 2-3 squads of infantry with lower-tech gear with a single squad of infantry with high-tech gear. I want an overall S.T.A.L.K.E.R feel to this setting, so I'm looking for the lower-tech troops to resemble S.T.A.L.K.E.R's Army and the high-tech troops to resemble Duty or the Monolith. I'm looking for 15mm miniatures. For the lower-tech troops, the best fit would probably be Rebel Minis' Spetznaz, but they're out of stock. So the two options I have in mind are either Peter Pig's Beret Regulars (or Helmet Regulars?), or one of the unit types (or several types?) of the QRF Soviet/CIS Infantry. Any additional recommendations would be very welcome. For the higher-tech troops, perhaps I could simply use my Rebel Minis Earth Force Marines which I've already bought and primed (though not painted); with the right paint-job - a Russian-type camo pattern - they would probably look like near-future troops in hardened NBC suits. Other options include Rebel minis Model 9 Bio-Soldiers with a camo paint-job (representing near-future troopers with HUDs), the Rebel Minis Titan Marines (they really have S.T.A.L.K.E.R-type gas-masks!) or the Kremlin Miniatures Cyberian Death Commandos (they also look S.T.A.L.K.E.R-y and would look very good with a camo paint-job). As for vehicles, I'm thinking about one QRF BTR-90 per squad, as these are quite new right now and would probably still be in service 27 years from now. As for the platoon commander, one option I'm considering is one of Peter Pig's Characters, either the Popular Front Leader or the Dictator. Suggestions would be welcome. |

I am not that wise to 15's. I would keep checking out various Sci-Fi lines. Can anyone help Golan out? Speaking of Russian Post Apoc - have you checked out the Metro 2033 book and PC game? |

I've heard a lot of good things about Metro 2033, but it probably won't work on my outdated computer. On the other hand, I've bought S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Call of Pripyat from STEAM last week and am enjoying the hell out of it (and I have S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Shadows of Chernobyl for the last 2 years - great game!); I'll probably also buy S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Clear Sky soon. As for the Russians, I think I'll decide that in my setting most high-tech equipped first-echelon troops were sent off to the front (Georgia, Iran and Armenia in this setting), leaving the second-echelon garrisons to guard the rear. So the ex-Army faction would have outdated gear, mostly gear which was new by 2000 but quite outdated by 2037. Which means An-94 Akaban rifles, RPGs and BTR-90 APCs. So I'm leaning towards the QRF stuff above. I'm thinking about a small platoon with two squads of QRF Soviet/CIS Paratroopers, a QRF Paratrooper Command Team and three QRF BTR-90's to carry them around. The whole thing would cost me about 52$ including shipping. |

clear sky is a good game, if you can ever get it to work, its a lot more unstable than shadows in so far as actually getting into the game, once in its not too bad. |

I talked with Rebel Minis and they will have the 15mm Spetznaz - the best modern Russian minis in the market IMHO - back in stock in a week or two. So that solves my troops problem. As for vehicles, I think I'll order three BTR-90's from QRF to mechanize this platoon. |

Hello I'm also new to 15mm gaming but I think best place for Russian-looking miniatures are peter PIG - proffesionals ( and hrdned militia ) and miniatures form REbel Minis ( also from African and Irak militia Ranges) |

Yes, I was considering to buy Peter Pig Helmet Regulars for this project, but I like the more varied weapon mix provided by Rebel Minis; their poses are also excellent. Generally speaking, I really like both companies (Peter Pig and Rebel Minis) - both give you very good sculpts that could easily be converted to represent a wide variety of forces. As for vehicles, however, QRF provides you with the broadest selection of WWII, Cold War and Modern vehicles. I don't think their infantry sculpts are as good as those of Peter Pig or Rebel Minis, but their vehicles are excellent. EDIT: Once I'll get into WWII skirmish gaming I'll definitely order figures and a few vehicles from Peter Pig. I'll definitely use him for the Germans as he has a very wide range of them available. I will probably buy a few of his Soviets as well. These figures look excellent! However, the only problem I have with Peter Pig is that his minis come in packs of 8. This is great for a larger force, but for smaller forces this makes purchases more expensive as you have to buy 40 (5x8) figures just to get SMGs, rifles, RPGs, LMGs and officers.
