I've also started to formulate some ideas for a not terribly serious mini-campaign based around my Partisan-ranger's attempts to thwart the crusaders... Including stealing an antique cannon from outside the town museum, whilst a crusader regiment has a booze up in the Inn just along the road. Then there would probably be a search by the crusaders, whilst the partisans try to evade & move the cannon, before a partisan raid on a convoy in the hope of obtaining ammunition for their cannon... and so on and so on. The cannon is looking good, and very green...
I'd probably have thought only a handful or two figures a side for most games. Probably fewer for the cannon stealing game (say 5 partisans, and a very drunk squad or two of crusaders... max of 25 figures in total? so many crusaders as it will be dark, and they will probably only be using random movement to represent drunk meanderings until they stumble into the partisans... then lots of bleary squinting and inaccurate shooting in an attempt to stop them leaving) Then probably about the same for the crusader sweep to find the stolen cannon (can the partisans get to the shed swhere it's kept, load it into a truck, and drive off in time, or will they get caught up in a fire fight). The convoy attack will probably involve a more equal 15-20ish per side. I was thinking earlier, that the partisans might not nessecarily be pro-royalist; a view which was influenced by reading an article on the 'clubmen' of the ECW, so there could be potential for both the Partisans and the free maer Braechians fighting against the Coftyrans at some stage, as well as possible tension between the 'free' forces which are probably led by a survior of one of the First Familes (Quar nobles) and the partisans. I was also thinking about possibly doing some quar partisans with melee weapons (again, inspired by the club men) - although not sure what form these might take. Maybe just a case of every gwearyn (quar man) bringing what he can (again, a bit like the club men) - so it'll be pitch forks, ancestor's swords, scythes, sturdy cudgels, etc... or possibly like the some of the Russian militia in the napoleonic wars, or early chinese communist militia, and arm them all uniformly with spears/pikes (although quite where these will be issued from i'm not sure).... |

Some interesting thoughts. Maybe the Quar could find a stash of weapons? Or maybe there is a armorer who makes them? Are you going to be converting these figures? Do they already come with the weapons you are thinking of? |

It did cross my mind that whilst they were 'borrowing' the cannon from the local museum, they might be able to top up their other equipment.... (effectively being a cache of weapons) Having done more research, I'm probably going to go along the 'converted agricultral tools' route - afterall, that only needs a friendly black smith! Having done a bit more research, it would seem that war scythes (litterally, a scythe head, mounted at 90 degrees to its normal position to make a crude glaive) were used by polish peasents in the Januray 1863 uprising, and a rebellion in the early 1920's, whilst Siberian partisans were using similar weapons and sharpened pitchforks during the russian revolution (as well as lots of muzzle loading muskets). Alas, they don't come with any of these weapons - they come with hunting rifles, but the conversions shouldn't be too hard. I was thinking of either the Kingmaker Hussite wars pole arm sprue or the Warlord pike and shot long improvised weapon sprue for a source ofthe actual weapons... |

Interesting to watch that clip and seeing the use of the farm tool as an instrument of war... Yeah, I know the Asians have used their farm tools for killing purposes for millenniums. As a side note: I have a nest of invasive wasps in the wall of my Sun room. After a few minutes of research I identified them as European Paper Wasps. The reason for note is that on the side of their thorax is a little yellow on black scythe

Lol! Good luck getting rid of the blighters tink! The much used Medieval Bill (AKA Billhook) was a converted agricultral implement. Origianlly used for cutting hedges, etc, it often had a spike welded to the top, and occasionally a hook welded to the back to make a more effective pole arm. ![]() the Old cannon from outside the museum, and a sneak peak at the ropyalist paint scheme... need to get some new, WW1 style german Stahlhelm heads when they are released, so I'm probably just going to focus on the crusaders for now |

The Char FCM2C is 1/56th, whilst the Mk. IV is 1/35th. On the big side, I'm planning to use it as a troop carrier (front opens tio discharge Quar assault squads) |
