As for post apocalypse Quar... none of them survive the apocalypse! (The first atom bomb test ignites the atmosphere and kills all life on the planet in a firery inferno... It's the designers way of justifying not doing Sci-Fi quar; although they have mentioned possibly doing 'Cadier and musket' and 'sword and shield' quar at some stage in the far future) |

Very nice. Always liked the Quar WWI retro vibe, but I've barred the door against more themed projects. ('Cause it means you need appropriate OpFor, terrain, vegetation, vehicles, rules, new dice...) |

And if that Tinker feller doesn't go for 'em, drop me a line Brian! Here's the long and short of the fluff as far as I can remember it: effectively I've been trying to think of a way of incorperating the different main stream factions in a setting, as well as my interests in Partisan/guerrilla actions... And the basic rule of Quar: gritty, but whimsical So what I've ended up with is an insurection by the 'Red snout' anti-royalist partisan rangers in the fairly recently conquered nation of Maer Braech, which has created something of a 'no-go zone' for Crusader forces (called the 'restored zone', in the face of the crusaders oppressive 'liberation'). The Coftyrans have dispatched an expeditionary force (small and under equipped as the Coftyrans are focusing on their own major war) to help consolidate this region, and dig in. This gives a setting where I can field Royalists & Partisans in a 'trench warfare' setting, being opposed by main force crusaders. Tanks, HMGs, fox holes, shell craters, trenches and the like will feature heavily. Think somewhere between the western front in WW1 and some of the major sieges of the ACW. Coftyran resupply will probably be by airship Outside of the 'restored' region, the partisans carry on conducting irregular warfare (with only a red item of clothing to identify themselves to each other, looted and civillain weapons and raw determination) , where they are opposed by mainstream crusader forces (including tanks/armoured tractors guarding convoys) and a crusader Freikorps (dubbed the Yellow caps after their yellow topped Kepis) formed of former regulars and militia members (fairly poorly trained, semi uniform but comparatively well armed although lacking in heavy support). This is more along the lines of the ACW Missouri-border war; with doses of WW2 partisans, the Boer war & Ello ello. Expect a mix of bush-wacker type raids out of the restored zone and partisan style sneaking about in the dead of night, possibly a few Coftyran 'commandoes' helping out, being opposed by the 'state guard', who may or may not have 'eh leetle tank'; and they might all be looking for the picutre of the Meh-Dunna with the big udders... edited: Corrected a couple of inconsistances, as well as swapping 'pro-royalist' to 'anti-crusader' a subtle, but significant difference... I had a read of some more of fluff in the TCW book (This Quar's War, the 'big battle' rules) and it was saying there that Coftyr sent several officers to observe the Maer Braech war; so perhaps the commander of the Coftyran troops already knows the terrain. there was also some fluff about various coftyran untis sending troops on 'deep reconissance' into Maer Braech, so I guess there is also the oppertunity of having some Coftyrans deep striking to join up with the Partisans. There was also an idea on the zombiesmith forums about the possibility of having a downed pilot... which led me to think of a braechian barthender (Rendry?) helping to hide 2 downed coftyran pilots from the crusaders (and having all sorts of problems with the pilots accents... ) *More Allo Allo references for those reading this and getting more and more confused* |

I swas thinking, maybe instead of having a large body of coftyran regulars helping the partisans; perhaps some of the Braechian military joined the Coftyrans when Maer Braech Surrendered (The old 'my enemies enemy' idea). These troops would have fought with the coftyrans against the crusaders in the hope that if they can stem the Crusader advance, then perhaps there is a chacne that they could push out of coftyr and reclaim Maer Braech before the coftyrans conquored it properly. In the intervening years they have been supplied with coftyran equipment, and now they have been deployed back into their home land to support the partisan rangers. Which isn't to say that normal Coftyrans won't be making an apperance too, probably on long distance partols and the like... (Really just fluff to justify the different uniforms; partly inspired by the Free Polish & Free Nowegians which fought with the Allies in WW2, although perhaps more akin to the Free Polish that fought for the Soviets in terms of motivation) I was also thinking that the Yellow epaulettes that I ussed on the crusaders didn't show up as well as I hoped; so I've repainted them. as the HSG teams are drawn from seperate Artillery forces, they've been given bluey-grey epaulettes, whilst the infantry have got dark green. These colours will also feature more on the regualr officers, hopefully making their uniforms slightly more impressive than the average rhyfler's... |
