Those that have known me for a while will know that the Quar have tempted me pretty much ever sincethey were released. Some times I'd wax hot, sometimes wane cold, but I'd keep going back. Those diselpunk little anteaters kept tugging on the wallet chains, with their oh-so-cool (to me) styling. It had so many of the elelments I loved from VSF, crossed with the things that kept drawing me towards a WW1 trench raid, and the only thing that really kept drawing me back to 40K was the WW1 styling of Imperial guard massed battles...
Added to it was a slightly silly whimsy to offset the gritty trench-war dystopia. Messenger squirrels and the like.

Anyways, last year I took part in the Zombiesmith 'write a song' competition; and although my work wasn't used in the rulebook inthe end, I did win a prize of gift tokens. I've resisited using it so far, as I knew that if I did... I'd probably not be able to stop. As always the project would grow and would end up with a lot of Quar and a big dent in my wallet. I recognised the signs. It was just what happened with my modern african gaming (I now have more men under arms than most middle size African countries. Painted figures alone run to 570+; not counting hte couple of hundred unpainted, scenery or vehicles...)

The beginning of the end was sealed when Zombiesmith released Songs of the Ancestors as a PDF. 'It's ok - I'll get that, and I haven't thought about quar for ages so I'm sure I'll be fine. Anyway... its only a few dollars, andI wonder if they did use any of my songs in it...' was about the thought pattern.
Then a few days later I found myself adding things to the ZS shopping cart whilst casually browsing the net in work. I deciced to take things slowly at first...

I'd buy something different, something I could use for another project... and if I got that finished then *maybe* I'd let myslef get some. *Maybe*.

So I ordered the BEF miniatures Char FCM2C model - becasue if that doesn't scream diselpunk WW1 I don't know what does, and 1 could maybe-possibly-with-a-lot-of-thought ended up in a modern african conflict.

It didn't work.

The Char FCM2C arrived today and looks lovely, but I had already given in. An order has been placed with ZS for trench raiders, partisans and a crusader heavy shotgun team. My mind races with thoughts of how to make Quar buildings, whilst also deciding on the best way to make a no-quars-land board with shell craters, dead trees, barbed wire and trenches (which I already have left over from another project). Various pieces of paper with half baked plans for colour schemes and conversions seem to fill my pockets and hte backs of note books; and my eBay watchlist is not-so-slowly filling with 'useful' other bits and pieces.

So I inivite you to join me in my mad plunge into an additional lead pile... I'll post up some of my musings/droolings/frothings (especially over some of the new CC interwar vehicles) and the initial work on the FCM2C, and no doubt a lot of coo-ing when the quar finally arrive from the states. :whis:

Well, the figures were ordered yesterday, so they'll be here hopefully by the end of the month.

I plumped for the Royalist Trench Daefyls (3); the Partisans (8); A Crusader Heavy shotgun and support team (6 figures); the crusader syrnol (more for use as an objective for games. Snatch the officer and the like!) and the crusader rhyfler Maerch figure (so that with the non weapon crew members of the HSG team I could field a half squad of crusaders if I wanted to).

But... until they arrive I figure i'll have a crack at getting asome scenery sorted out, as well as making markers for the SoA rules. So this lunchtime I'm going to pop down into town to the local model shop and see if they have any tree armatures (dead trees for no-quars'land... will get some stumps as well soon) and I'm starting to think about making barbed wire entanglements. Think the model shop stocks the pegasus set, if not I'll see what they have...

Then next on the list is craters!

Danny - If they come in time, I'd love to chuck these fellas up against the AR. If nothing else, their 12mm standard rifles will probably make a bent in some AR armour! If not, I'm sure I can find something to ruin the AR's day (I've got all those AC57 Chinese which might do the trick)

No sign of the Quar yet... but in the mean time, the Char is awaiting primer, I've picked up a set of GW craters which are being painted (I would post piccies, but the damned camera has gone AWOL) and I should have a set of barbed wire & posts on its way. Now I need to wait for next month and more pocket money, so I can get some of those tree armatures from Woodland scenics, tree stumps and fox holes from Baker Co. & more craters (this time from Black Cat)

I've got plans for smoke markers, and I'm still thinking on some of the others...

Also owrking on various foilks to get funds for buying Quar for my birthday. lol.

Sounds good so far.

I am sure the AR armour isnt that good, hell even a smogger musket has taken them down. Although I am planning on adding some power armour to the AR forces.

There is also the Smoggers, Vermen/Gothrats, Brittannia (including the Black Daggars Co), Kraptoidiots corporation and Enclave to give them a run for their money. If I ever get my Neo Sovs done there may be them too.

They've still not arrived yet I'm afriad guys... trans-atlantc shipping and that. Got the craters painted, keeping my eye out for some more, and I've started on a cammo scheme for the FCM. Decided to do it as a royalist vehicle, and doing it in a 3-shape grey pattern inspired by the royalist aeroplane camo shown in the Kublacon pictures on the zombiesmith site.

Welcome to the wastes Peabody!

And... well, it all went quiet. Having to drill out the necks on the crusaders put me off doing anything to Quar for a while, and they sat in a box partially forgotten about.... Until we moved, and I re-discovered them!

I was sat at my desk, and felt them calling to me... so here are the latest quar offerings:

Thanks chaps - 3 more partisans have been finished; although I didn't get chance to photograph them this morning. 3 More partisans to do over the weekend, and 2 Croftyran Trench Deafyls... then there are a few crusaders to paint whilst I assemble+prime the others!

I've also got a paddle steamer, 2 tanks, and an air ship which are all in various stages of being converted and/or painted...
