I usually leave sleeving for buildings, where you will be focusing on the exterior. As the focus will be on the interior and its getting a coat or two of textured paint I decided just to go for the slap it together approach. Once its painted you wont be able to see the problem joints. If I was going for a Space Ship or building layout I would have gone for the sleeved joints. I am interested in your sign-age ideas Tinker. I was thinking of putting some of mine in Russian. Edited by mattblackgod, May 9 2010, 09:58 PM.

Well my idea isn't just for looks Danny, it'll also stop the tunnels from sliding apart if the table gets knocked, or a tunnel gets knocked during play. Still its just a suggestion. |

The tunnels are made so its too late for them Mal. I will think about it for the rooms as they are still waiting to be built. I have just got more foam board so I can get cutting the walls. I also picked up some I beams for detailing. I have got some sections painted - they just need a dry brushing, washing and some detailing. I am detailing some of the other sections too. Some nice goodies have came out of the bitz box.

Looks great. Would love to make a Fallout (1 or 2 ofcourse) vault. Or a cave network with a Radscorpion nest in it. Actually screw the Radscorpion, i'd put one of those giant spiders from HERESY in it instead.

time for some WIP pictures......![]() Here is what I have done of the tunnel sections so far. Textured paint and some car primer over sprays to add that dirty look. There will be further drybrushing and washes. I also need to add some detail to all the tunnel sections. ![]() Raven has just climbed down into the long tunnel. The ladder is a plastruct item. ![]() Looking down the tunnel. ![]() Tunnel T section. The aircon vent is from the Ainsty aircon set. Its a good place for mutants to leap from. ![]() This Stalker checks out a corner section. The pipes are lolly pop sticks and the technical panel is from a hexagon platformer set. ![]() The ribbed wall braces are the plastic clips for holding toy cars to their bases. Dont sling anything! ![]() A perspective shot. ![]() The collapsed tunnel. ![]() Rubble shot. ![]() Some detail in the collapsed tunnel. ![]() A monster cog. This was inspired by a Urban Explore on 28day later forum of a building near me. There was this huge cog leaning against a wall at the top of some stairs. The cog in this picture came from my fisher price garage when I gutted it for terrain about 6 years ago. See - save everything! ![]() This tunnel has a ladder. The ladder is scratch built from some plastruct and q-tip stems. Ladders are quite easy to make. ![]() ![]() Some shots of the same tunnel section showing off the damage to the floor and rubbish in the tunnel. ![]() Another T section and a donor piece from a Hexagon platformer set. ![]() The Stalker stash room has had some lockers added and wires hanging out of the wall. The lockers came from some kids toy playhouse set I got from a cheapo shop years back. It has provided some interesting little details over the years even if the scale is closer to 25mm true. I am debating about building some shelves and putting a table into this room. ![]() A corner tunnel with a drinking straw pipe and another bit stolen from my platformer spares. ![]() "What the F??" the Stalker growled as a huge figure loomed out of the darkness..... A comparison shot of EM4/copplestone to AT-43 size. I grabbed a bunch of Red Block cheap on evilbay. Nice minis but a bit large. At 34mm that makes them around seven feet tall. The bases are a little higher too. I may rebase them to make them a tad smaller. They are part of my Neo-Sov genetically bred warrior program. But there too few of them to waste patrolling the wastelands. They are kept for "special" missions that even the Spatnez would refuse to do. ![]() Another detritus filled T section. ![]() This is going to be a broken pipe section. I plan a nasty puddle of green goo in this section. Nice! ![]() A right angled section with a pipe filled wall and some rubbish on the floor. I am now wondering about making some electrical boxes and control panels for some of the walls. No idea where to start. The fuse box types will have covers and some may have states of ammo, meds or weapons in them. Any thoughts? I am also thinking of adding cable runs here and there, some electrical switch gear boxes and other odds n sods. Once I get the tunnels to a finished state I will start on the rooms. I also scored a cool bit of packaging that looks like something you would see in a sewer network (it also reminded me of a section in the Metro 2033 game). So I am going to add that. It will also give me the ability to move figures to other levels in the complex. Another thought was to make some double level rooms with a stair going up to a higher room. There is a awesome section in the Brain Scorcher Lab in the Stalker PC game. It is several small rooms with high mounted tanks and walkways. Long one side is a corridor. At the rear of the tanks there are walkway entrances to each section. In one section a tank has collapsed off the mounts and blocked the far side exit. It makes for a pretty difficult firefight trying to move forces through there (or in Stalker - Marked One is trying to leave after shutting down the Brain Scorcher and 30 or so Monolith cultists are after his blood). Very nice work, bro. I'm looking forward to seeing it finished. I'd add those signs and splashes of rusty color to break up the gray. What about large letters or hazard stripes stenciled on the floor? |

Your Granddaughter has taste Tinker. I have printed a set of sign off for the tunnel network. The panels are going to have some colours in them and signs too. I have a couple of lettrasets for such work. Signage will be done in a mix of English and Russian, and maybe some other stuff. I have some hobo signs jpg some place. I may add some as graffti for "Stalker" signs. Oddly - Stalkers turn up in Metro 2033 too. They are crazy scavengers and adventurers of the post apoc city.

A quick suggestion in the locker room: Mount the lockers higher on the wall, then they won't look so off scale. |

Thats a good idea. To me honest they dont look under scale at all. I am tempted to order some resin bits as free standing terrain in the rooms (when I finish making them! ). I am thinking about lots of crates, boxes and drums in the rooms and tunnels. These I have lots of. I am thinking about some desks, tables, computer terminals, lockers, drinks dispensers, barricades, a medical room, Cryo pods, large machines, breeding pods, generators, a armoury and possibly a small nuke reactor. The rooms will be painted white with a coloured band on the bottom half either Green, Blue or Red (from what I have seen they are the basic colours a lot of underground rooms are painted in esp. in military complexes). I may keep one room totally white. I am thinking about making some more tunnels with a sidewalk. The lower section will be filled with sludge like a nice sewer system. Nice.... Progress has been slow. I have gotten all the tunnel bits textured and a few sprayed. Bad weather has stopped me spraying stuff. Once I have them all done I will drybrush, wash and detail. I have made up one ladder room (going down!) and a large tunnel. Photos will follow when I get a minute. |
