Thats a pretty cool idea, could build a whole subterrainain bunker complex like that....

Although if I was to do something like that i'd build it in a 3d map editor first.

Danny,

That's the terrain piece I was posting about in an earlier thread!! I really would like to build something similar one of these days. You made a comment in an different thread on another terrain project that it is just too 'plain' and requires signage and graffiti.

Very cool. I remember seeing something like that years ago. Shouldn't be that hard technically to build, just lots of repetitive steps. Though Mal is spot on with the "plan it out ahead" idea. Could be used for gang wars, zombie plagues, bug hunts. Hmm.

Edit: I'd add a couple of landing pads for insertion/extraction scenarios. Double hmm.

Ah I remember that board - I think it was in the Citadel Journal way back when :) As I recall it was mostly fridge packing foam...
I think they added graffiti when a certain gang took over a certain level, stuff like that...

well if I build one it'll be made out of wood most likely....

more support, easier to work with on a large scale and it doesn't break if you brush up against it...

I started building one of these years ago for Necromunda games.I got about half way through the building phase and lost interest. My new idea is to take my existing Necromunda terrain some of it is 8 or 9 stories tall and make more buildings to hang from a 4foot by 4 foot grate atached to the ceiling. This way you could put walk ways from the buildings on the ground tothe ones hanging from the celing.I have the grate 90% built and it hangs nice makeing a 4 foot wide by 4 foot tall area to play in but i have not started on any buildings.I need a new push of Necromunda insperation to get started.

It's a cool piece of terrain.

Personally, I've wanted to make a building for CQB-type games, but if I ever get around to it I'll probably make each floor fit in a 2'x2' space and lay six floors out horizontally on a 6'x4' table, rather than try to stack them vertically.

And wouldn't you know it.... when I go to save... I loose the whole bloody thing... now I have to start over from scratch... I really don't like this new software, theres not even an instruction manual anymore :book:

Sorry, CQB = Close Quarters Battle. Essentially, I was referring to games where the action would all take place inside the confines of a building or similar enclosed structure.

I was thinking of using 2" thick Extruded Polystyrene (XPS) Rigid Insulation boards for the vertical structure and 1" for the "floors", the entire thing about 3 feet tall and 2 feet square, with a landingpad at the very top. XPS is strong, light, easily cut and formed with a sharp knife and can be glued with Liquid Nails.

More photos from the same source:

The floors are about 1" thick and there's 3" between the floor and the roof of each level, so 4" per level. Also, the floors seem to be between 2" and 3" wide. Enough room for swarms and larger monsters. :(|smuggrin:

Wish they had a top-down shot (plan view?) to get a better idea how it was constructed. I'm thinking a pinwheel with a small central column - not accessible for game play, but will increase the stability without taking up too much room.

Okay. This is what I came up with:

For full sized picture:

The landing pad would go at the very top and hide the hollow core inside the central column. Ladders would both be small & large to allow bigger critters to chase after the hapless intruders stalwart explorers. Some sections would be blocked off from the rest of the level only to be accessed by ladders from above & below. Maybe even build-in a couple of multilevel "caverns".

Still in the doodle stage...
