My first bit of scenery

I know you guys love my blurry pics so here's my first go at making some scenery. I can't compete with the quality but I might be beating you on the speed! I've done about 30 sections in different sizes, total time excluding firing it is about 15 minutes.

I flattened a large piece of clay, made brick shapes in it and then cut it into pieces divisible by one inch so that it fits together in any way you like. It's very sturdy so no base required. Kind of simple but at about £2 to cover a whole table I think it's value for money if nothing else. No painting required either, which is a plus.

Some pieces put together to form a ruin.

Russian in search of an undercoat.

Now I know it works and looks more or less ok I'll be going back and doing a neater set with more windows and doorways. Might be worth recolouring the odd brick to make it look more realistic. What do you think?

Certainly seems interesting - is it air-dry clay or do you need to kiln it?

That was the traditional kind but I'm sure something like Das air drying clay would work too.

Readily Available Material [X]

Looks Damn Good [X]
Bonus Round: Don't Have to Paint [X]

We have a winner here, boss.

I'm a wuss, so air-dry modeling material would be mandatory.

Yep, this really does work! Raven mentioned that it doesn't need to be painted which is great. Though a simple wash could really bring out some of thet great detail you've done. I think i'll try this for a different table. Great work.

Looks great and a nice idea. I may have to pinch this. :D In addition to the washes a dry brush will help pick out detail and give it a ruins feel. If you feel really artistic add some graffiti or print posters off and glue them up.

Quick pic of my work in progress ruined buildings done the same way. Tried to give all of them at least one wall that is bending in or out to make it look like they were about to fall down.

i'd wash it in black just to 'ratty' it up a bit, but looking good, are you planning any larger structures?

Yep it's looking excellent. Any chance of seeing them in a group shot with a mate's camera?

I've still got a bit of work to do on them but this is how a couple together look. Definitely going to rat them up a bit when I've got the posters and fire escapes on them.

Looking good there StrangeLove, that building has that old crumbly burnt out look to it!

What scale are these to be gamed with?

Tehy clay buildings look good together. Will you be using them as conjoined terrain so gangs can run from one piece to the other without breaking cover.'

Next up we need need batrep. ;)

Thanks I'm actually working on stealing your idea of using printed material for the interiors. What I'm trying to do is to make buildings that are completely moduar so you can stack them or put them side by side to form different kinds of buildings with minor scenery built in like bookshelves and tables, that kind of thing. I've been experimenting with a simple dowelling rod and hole system to lock it all together.

Batrep as soon as it's done!
