All good names Dawgie, Some will find there way into the Island. I do like the Islands ideas, so I might add some extra islands. I like the large island idea too as it allows the factions to knock the hell out of each other easier!  Still other oddball islands can be added. I am sold on fictional island chains on Earth for the setting as it makes it easier to add some outsiders to the island(s). Plus it will allow me to satire things happening in South America (or other from places if I stick a Spanish, Portuguese or Latino slant on it) in the news.I am tempted to take some Island inspiration from the Pirates of the Carribean movies. Hell I might even end up with a pirate crew operating around the islands. Of course I can also pinch inspiration from the Farcry and Crysis PC games. Mattblackworld has a Tri Continental land mass as its main land mass. It also has two others both contental land masses. They are not yet developed in my fiction. Most of the action takes place currently in the more North Western parts of the continent, although Stalker is set in a region centre and North. There is also quite a few island chains with Islands ranging in size from Very small up to the size of Britain/Ireland or Madagascar. They are also undeveloped yet, with only three islands with any sort of details. Isle of Mutation (based on the Isle of Man), Craggy and Rugged Island both based on one my favourite TV shows - Father Ted. They too are inhabited by mad cultists. They will be of the Matt Black Monks (nut jobs in orange robes and like close combat, they are to be painted sometime in the future). The cult try to fight to help the denizens of MBW. They are also mad. Then there is the Cult of Mattblackgod - who are a doomsday cult and insist that the Mattblackgod has destroyed the world to punish the denizens. BY the way, EL GUAPO translates roughly into "THE HANDSOME", the nick name for the leader of the revolutionaries in my own PEURTO VERDE mini-campaign. i am looking forward to seeing what y'all do here; my own PEURTO VERDE is set in the 1880s and is a generic catchall for my SAW SPANISH forces, AMERICAN forces, FILIPPINO forces, assorted MEXICAN forces, BRITISH and some other EURO-DEWD forces in a MEXICAN - CARIBBEAN - CENTRAL - SOUTH AMERICAN - CUBA - PHILLIPINES theme. pirates, smugglers, bandits, oppressed peons, gun runners, mercs, foreign adventurers, religious cultists, things man was not meant to know, revolutionaries, hostile tribesmen, foreign expeditionary forces/punitive expeditions and a decaying colonial empire clinging desperately to the region for its natural resources, and mineral wealth. my original favorite 'HISPANIC" skin tone was called PACTRA ENAMEL "WOOD TAN", which provided the flesh tone for my PENISULAR WAR SPANISH guerrillas. but for many years (more than 20 plus) i have used water based acrylic craft paints and water based acrylic bisque paints for everything. same colors as the hyped "military" and "space" paints, but a lot more paint per container for a lot less money. these or similar colors comprise my basic "HISPANIC" skin tones: APPLE BARREL/PLAID "TOFFEE" AMERICANA/DECO ART "HONEY BROWN", "MINK TAN", "RAW SIENNA", and "MILK CHOCOLATE" . to these i add enough AMERICANA/DECO ART "DA 137 SHADING FLESH" to give a hint of "pinkness" to the various above colors. you will have to play with the mix to find the shade that you like, but, hey, "HISPANICS" come in lots colors including a very pale white, almost a DRESDEN FLESH, black, dark brown, red brown, etc. the result looks about like 99% of the various MEXICAN, PEURTO RICAN, CENTRAL AMERICAN, SOUTH AMERICAN and CUBANO "HISPANICS" i have been around most of my adult life. i highly recommend BAKER COMPANY, MONGREL MINIATURES, and MODERN FORCES 28-mm leads. TAG are my next favorite. CHILTERN and BRITANNIA are both too chunky for me, EUREKA (except for the WEST GERMANS) tend to be too small and frail looking. I'm NOT TOO worried about YOU, it's my wallet an Island start up costs would have to come from!!!  The Sept/Oct 2000 issue of MWAN (Midwest Wargamer's Association Newsletter) featured a set of rules "Lone Star and Lion: The Texas-Anglo Alliance vs The Prussian-Ottoman Empire". Which involves the discovery by a Texas oil-steamer "Alamo" of an uncharted island in 1840 off the Africa continent in the Atlantic. Being unclaimed and mineral rich Texas colonizes. The twist is that within weeks of the Texas find The Ottoman Empire has made the claim for the island due to recent their discovery and starts colonizing. By 1880's the proverbial crap has hit the fan! Both sides drawing swords, pulling pistols and having at each other. Yes, it's another Island I'd like to visit... though this one is economically viable due in part of my owning 1/72 ACW and Cowboy figures! Add in some British from the Zulu Wars or Afganistan. Locate Prussian and Ottoman's of the general era and I'll be in business. Thought's of just using paper flats has also been seriously considered by me and I feel it would be even more economical than 1/72. tinker |

being basically brain dead at times, i complete forgot to mention my other favorite modern TOMMIES, ones that i rank in third place with TAG. smaller than TAG, but with a very right look and feel to them are the BRIT soldiers made by GLEN BROOKS MINIATURES. i just wish GLEN would continue to expand the line of TOMMIES to include GPMGs, MINIMIs and shotguns.
