My own way of putting the Stalker tale worldwide and creating an apocalypse. There are elements of the game and movie in this background setting. In 1986 the Chernobyl reactor accident happened. The rest is history that we are all familiar with. Then in 2006 something else happened at the site. An explosion happened. No one knew what had happened but the area around it - the zone, some strange things started to happen. A group of people invaded the Zone despite the military trying to stop them. These people became known as STALKERS. Around the zone strange things began to happen. Like the laws of science was being twisted. Gravity, time and space anomalies appeared. These where followed by electricity, wind, fire and a strange sludge. All of them had the power to kill the unwary and are often invisible. They could wreck and destroy buildings and vehicles with ease. Added to this the zone started to fill up with strange mutants. Add to this the toxic and radioactive waste the zone was a dangerous place. Further more the remains of what had wandered into the anoloies was left with strange powers and became sought after on black markets world wide. The STALKERs spoke of a monolith of something that had crashed into the reactor Sarcophagus. The monolith was also called "the wishgranter" for it was said it could grant wishes. Rumour says it is a gift from space or the gods. Others claim it is a weapon or punishment. In 2011 the military became interested in the zone and its oddities. They stormed the zone enmass. However the zone reacted. The anomalies became more frequent. The further into the zone they went the denser they became. Then something new came about. The PSI fields began. Soldiers and Stalkers alike had their minds wiped becoming violent walking mindless things, which stalkers call Zombies. After this the Zone Storms or Blowouts started to occur. This was a strange energy pulse that made the brain fry killing everything caught outside. Pretty soon the military were stopped. It seemed the Zone was protecting itself. It was then that the science teams noticed that the zone had grown by a mile. Further speculation from Stalkers was the Wishgranter absorbed the souls of the fallen. The legends of the zone spread and more Stalkers arrived. By 2012 the Zone was bigger again and the military launched a fresh assault on the Zone. It and the Stalkers fought back and the military failed. The zone grew again and new mutants where seen. It was now that a marked number of mutated babies where born world wide. As they grew it was seen that they had PSI powers. The Stalkers coined them "Children of the Zone" and the caught on. In 2013 the military tried again only to be beaten back once more. After this the Zone's size jumped by five miles. The authorities began evacuating any villages and towns near the zone's boarders. The anomalies started to appear outside the zone. They appeared for a short time in Moscow, New York, Paris and England. The Stalkers said it was a warning to the world but under international pressure the military attacked again, with orders to destroy the monolith. The zone hit back and the Blowouts happened for several days. The anomalies killed the unwary. After this the zone jumped in size by twenty miles. Fear gripped the world as mutants appeared in small numbers across the world. PSI hotspots and anomalies appeared in every town and city. Thousands died world wide and the pressure built. The situation was getting out of hand. In a final attempt to destroy the zone the military launched a nuclear weapon at the old Reactor. The bomb never arrived. As it approached the zone the missile vanished. Stalkers claim a large space anomie began as the weapon launched. A few seconds later a nuclear weapon landed in Washington USA. It was the weapon launched at Chernobyl. A short exchange of weapons followed in-between various countries. Luckily it was stopped as they realised what had happened. Humanity had destroyed its major cities and major military facilities. Millions died. The zone grew further and Stalkers noticed a strange quite. The mutants had vanished. The zone was still. Then the skies grew red as another blowout brewed. The Stalkers took cover. But nothing happened. The skies over Chernobyl grew to a dark red for three days. All the Stalkers had headaches. As the world debated on what to do and how to clean up the mess they had made, a massive blow out occurred. All the Stalkers in the zone where in cover but all of them passed out as the storm broke. They awoke hours later to find a new world. Zone world. The blowout ripped across the the world at speeds close to Mach10 killing everything alive caught out doors. The zones influence spread world wide. Not as powerful as the area of the zone. But enough to create anomalies and mutants world wide. Now survivors of the wrecked world avoid radiation and mutants, scavenging to survive. Stalkers now say the monolith was a gift but we wanted to abuse it and so it punished humanity to live in a form of hell. Welcome to Zone world, the world of the STALKER. |

Sounds awesome Danny! I like the take on it, and all the mystreries left unanswered - so does this mean that MattBlack World is really earth, or are you going to run STALKER world seperately? |

Stalker/Zone world was a setting idea I was playing with for those who want to do a post apoc game based on the games and movie. Please feel free to use it if you wish as most of the initial background is nicked from the movie and PC games. All I did was create the end of the world using it. If you use it all I ask for is a credit in your fluff. I may set up a second site for Stalker world as the minis would probably fill up a freewebs page alone. For now I am going to keep it on MBW until I have more terrian sorted. No MBW isnt Earth but a parody in some respects. Its my chance to create stuff to satire the world, events and characters.  And of course use any damn mini and rules I like (for those who don't know I am a Wargames Anarchist!)I love the mystery of Stalker the movie and the games. I love how the Stalkers see the zone as a living entity and respect it with a mix of awe and fear. The zone spares some. Only one man recovered from the zombifiying/brain scorching - Marked One. He is seen as being saved by the Zone for a purpose. Merc is also the only man to survive a blowout and has a resistance to them. He recovers faster from damage and other things as a gift from the zone. The down side is he must carry out a mission for the zone, for as each blow out happens the worse he gets until his own body kills him. Such a place would draw people from across the world, even a post apoc one. That reminds me I have a little more to add to this setting. A sort of the world today. |

Zone World Update....The World today. The world is part ruined thanks the the nuclear exchange and the appearance of the anomalies. However since the Uber Blowout, as the Stalkers call it, the anomalous activity around the world reduced to a level where they are regarded as rare (about 1 in a 50 mile radius). However the rate of mutant children among survivors continues to grow. This is also true of animals too. It is thought that 75% of the worlds surviving pigs have mutated to what the Stalkers call a Flesh mutant. Pseudo dogs and shaggys are also a common animal across the world. Bloodsuckers and Snorks exist but are thankfully few in number. However other terrible mutants have appeared across the world. Life for many survivors is tough and many spend their days scavenging and fighting mutants or each other to survive. The zone is now 150 miles across and continues to grow at a rate of 2 miles a year. Fifty miles around the zone there is a notable increase in anomalies until you get inside the zone proper where anomie and PSI hotspots are more frequent. The monolith cult has grown in numbers and now holds the centre of the zone as far as the Garbage. Duty is at war with them and there seems to be no lack of folks joining to try to destroy the zone from the inside. Many of the remaining military Stalkers and guards joined Duty after the Uber Blowout. Stalker numbers have increased slightly with people making the perilous journeys across the world to visit the zone. With the military gone there is no controls stopping them entering. There is also no controls stopping the mutants spreading from the zone. One thing is certain, the Monolith is not going away and many surviving Stalkers fear another Uber Blowout. |

OOOOOOH, DANNY, this is very good! like you, i am a war games anarchist, always have been, and one of the reasons i was drawn to swords and sorcery, science fiction, and post apocalyptic gaming was the freedom that allowed me to use lots of stuff from DAWGIE CENTRAL CASTING as well as buy the ever useful oddball stuff that i have always been attracted to. I have decided that Stalker World will be my second Post Apoc setting, which means when I get organised I will need another webpage. I can mix and match minis world wide from any of my current collection with the right Modern/Near Future feel. Plus games will be set all over the world with the usual post apoc goodness with a Stalker slant of course. They will still have the mutants and odd anomaly to deal with. I will also be able to use minis from the Loco Island/Mulp madness that I plan. As for the zone the nearby enclave - called Red Star (they will be my Neo Sov faction on MBW) will be trying to police the borders (good luck with that) and hatching plans to destroy the zone. They might have help as other strong enclaves worldwide will be sending people to help kill the zone (although they will be looking at months to get there, it they are lucky). |
