FORWARD. WELL I HAD A HARD TIME SLEEPING LAST NIGHT, SO I DECIDED TO PLAY A SMALL SKIRMISH GAME USING TWO HOUR WAR GAMES CHAIN REACTION RULES. I PLAYED THIS SOLO, BUT IT COULD BE JUST AS EASILY PLAYED WITH PLAYERS ON BOTH SIDES, OR WITH ALL PLAYERS VS THE RULES. NOT FEELING UP TO BEING ULTRA-CREATIVE,I SURVEYED TOYS ON HAND. MY MK I EYEBALLS LIT UPON MONGREL MINIS BRITS AND RUSSIANS, SO I DECIDED ON A COLD WAR TURNED HOT "WHAT IF SCENARIO". DATE; 14 APR 1980 TIME: 2000 HOURS, LOCAL TIME PLACE: SOMEWHERE IN RURAL WEST GERMANY. BRIT SITEP: CORPORAL, your section (currently 6 bods strong) has been ordered by the CO to investigate an unconfirmed civvie report of a small WARSAW PACT unit operating behind NATO lines in your battalion area. the report is garbled, but the civvies claim to have seen a SOVIET tank, an APC, and two trucks hiding in the woods at map coordinates (insert coordinates of choice here). this must be checked out immediately, and you have been fingered for the job. . . you are moving cross country to the reported sighting, with the background noise of the front lines, heading away from "the action", and (hopefully!) not towards any small unit action of your own. you still have a distance to travel, when the point man signals " FREEZE". from the vicinity of the sunken roadway to your front, you hear the unmistakable sound of powerful engines and tracks. moving carefully forward, to a slight hill over looking the sunken road, you see four (4) infantry walking along the road, leading a damned tank! about two (2) vehicle lengths behind the tank, you see two (2) soft skinned cargo trucks carrying unknown "stuff", an APC, and four (4) more foot sloggers are following it. BRIT MISSION : KORLBOBLI is tasked with finding the alleged WARSAW PACT unit, confirming its ID, and eliminating it with section assets, or, artillery fire support or both. BRIT GOAL; DO NOT ALLOW ANY VEHICLES OR PERSONNEL TO LEAVE THE TABLE, OR ALLOW ANY FUNCTIONING VEHICLES OR TROOPS ON TABLE AT THE END OF THE BATTLE! BRIT KORLBOBLI PATROL. CORPORAL (REP-5/SV-5/MV-5). SMG, grenades, combat knife. manpack radio! night vision gear. LANCE CORPORAL (REP-4/SV-4/MV-4), SMG, grenades, extra GPMG ammo, combat knife.night vision gear. PTE. (REP-4/SV-4/MV-4), GPMG, extra ammo, grenades, combat knife.night vision gear. PTE. (REP-3/SV-3/MV-3). SLR, extra GPMG ammo. grenades, combat knife. night vision gear. PTE. (REP-4/SV-4/MV-4), SMG, MAW (RELOADABLE), extra MAW rounds, grenades, combat knife. night vision gear. PTE. (REP-4/SV-4/MV-4) SLR, extra MAW ammo, grenades, combat knife. night vision gear. AVAILABLE BRIT SUPPORT: in theory, you have BIG GUNS at your disposal (providing some other sod does not need them more than you do!). in practice, you have section assets, and company mortars for fire support. nothing else. . . use rules for mortars. BRIT DEPLOYMENT. BRITS are considered to be hidden until they shoot, or until they are sighted by WARSAW PACT troops. the BRITS are on the NORTH side of the sunken road, hunkered down behind all available cover and concealment, within 24" of the sunken roadway. the WARSAW PACT force is in full view of the lurking BRITS! BRITs have first activation of the game. follow normal activation procedure after the first turn. WARSAW PACT SITREP: SERGEANT, your odds and sods are behind NATO lines, cut off by a unexpected NATO counter attack supported by air forces in this area. the trucks are loaded with precious POL, survivors of a re-supply forward depot. your tank and the APC/troops are from other units which were at the depot when it was attacked. for three (days) now you have been playing hide and seek with the NATO troops, always falling back to the EAST after nightfall in an effort to find and rejoin friendly forces. tonight, as you move along this deserted secondary roadway, you can see and hear the sounds of battle at the front lines. you hope your luck holds . . . WARSAW PACT MISSION: WARSAW PACT troops are trying to escape off table without being detected by NATO forces. WARSAW PACT GOAL: ESCAPE OFF THE EASTERN EDGE OF THE TABLE WITH YOUR ENTIRE FORCE. BARRING THAT MAKE SURE THE TRUCKS LOADED WITH POL ESCAPE OFF TABLE. WARSAW PACT FORCE. ONE (1) BATTLE DAMAGED TANK (use what ever y'all have on hand). MAIN GUN is disabled, cannot be used. MACHINE GUNS have limited ammo available (ammo out, means, NO MORE AMMO). no night vision gear. FULL CREW with normal tanker small arms and etc available to them. REPS/SV/MV for tankers is randomly determined! roll 1D6 to determine: SCORE 1 OR 2 = REP-3/SV-3/MV-3 SCORE 3 OR 4 = REP-4/SV-4/MV-4 SCORE 5 OR 6 = REP-4/SV-5/MV-5 ONE (1) APC (use what ever y'all have). MAIN GUN works, and has 2D6+2 rounds of ammo! MACHINE GUN is low on ammo, so when ammo out occurs, this means no more ammo! no night vision gear. FULL APC crew with normal weaponry for dismounted use. random determined REPS/ETC, as for tank above. INFANTRYMEN X 8 EA. ALL INFANTRY ARE DISMOUNTED AT START OF BATTLE! normal weaponry for a SOVIET squad. no night vision gear. randomly determined REP/ETC. roll 1D6: SCORE 1, 2, 3 = REP-3/SV-3/MV-3 SCORE 4, 5 = REP-4/SV-4/MV-4 SCORE 5 = REP-5/SV-5/MV-5 TWO (2) TRUCKS.SOFT SKINNED VEHICLES, NO MOUNTED WEAPONRY.TRUCKS are loaded with drums of POL. DRIVER and ASST DRIVER have randomly determined REP/ETC. no night vision gear. normal transportation corps weaponry. roll 1D6: SCORE 1 OR 2 = REP-2/SV-2/MV-2 SCORE 3, 4, 5, 6 = REP-3/SV-3/MV-3 AVAILABLE WARSAW PACT SUPPORT: NONE! DEPLOYMENT: WARSAW PACT force enters the WESTERN table edge, on the roadway, order of march as follows: 4 infantry followed by the tank, followed by the two (2) trucks, followed by the APC, followed by 4 infantry. all moving at infantry walking speed (4 inches-these guys are all footsore and very tired). cannot react until fired upon, or BRITS are detected. after ambush is sprung (or detected) follow normal activation procedure. TABLETOP TERRAIN. open, with woods, fields, the sunken roadway, one or two battered farmhouses or other civvie structures placed at least 12" from the roadway. DAWGIE |
