Two good series if you are into fairly graphic violence in a post apoc universe.

Endworld:
100 years after a nuclear war between the US and the USSR, things are starting to stabilise again and different groups are coming out of hiding. The stories revolve around the small but highly skilled "Family", the descendants of people who hid out in a compound thats pretty close to a survivalists wet dream. Throughout the numerous books in the series they encounter other groups from motorbike raiders to subterranean troglodytes to remnants of the US army, as well as invading USSR troops. No one really knows whats going on in the outside world, at least as far as I have read as yet. Plenty of mutants, primitive and advanced technology, the works.

The Survivalist:
xx Spoilers as I only have a few in the latter part of the series!xx
Amazing. True action pulp, its like an arnie film during and after the apocalypse. I only have a couple, but basicly the shit hits the fan and there is a widespread nuclear war followed by social breakdown and anarchy. Once again, motorbike gangs and raiders abound, as does a massive invading Soviet army. Pretty much all of this is fought off by the main character with his twin Deutonics handguns and the steely set of his jaw. Then the atmosphere ionises and burns off, pretty much wiping out all life on the planet.
Except for the main character, who goes into cryogenic sleep for 500 years.
Oh, and his soviet nemisis. And Nazis (from South America). And the descendents of rich playboys. And the soviet super-minx. And, although this is as far as I have got, I should imagine that a lot more people will survive... For a while, at least. Until the main character gets to them.

Both highly reccomended! Good fun reads, more for the setting and depiction of the world it must be said, but I have become addicted to both. Every time I pass a 2nd hand bookshop, I check the shelves to see if any have turned up, as I'm not sure if they were even released in the UK and if they were I think most of them are long gone by now.
A quest!
The Truth is out there... Way out there.

I did a quick search just to see how many books are in the series... twentyfrickingeight!!! Wow, that is plenty of opportunity for a writer to hone his craft!

Nonetheless, I'll look for the series the next time I'm at the local book shop. Thanks for the heads up.

My hands are blistered from trying to get a grip on reality!
