HAHAHA!!! Poor guy probably only has one testicle, as well... ![]() Okay, here are the Brotherhood chaps in mid-paint: ![]() ![]() I think I need to re-do the arms on the Knight... they're supposed to have green sleeves, right? The reference pics at The Vault are so tiny it's hard to tell... >< Although I think the green-and-brown color scheme is kind of DUMB for the Wasteland, unless you're hiding in a tree, the fact is that Fallout Combat Armor was mostly used by pre-war U.S. military, thus the olive drab... and the pants were supposedly leather, thus the brown. Obviously, I want my minis to be as close to their Fallout counterparts as possible. I'm holding off on weapon-paint and flesh-paint until I have a BUNCH of minis to do at once, because I need to mix those for the right tones. Then again, I may paint the flesh on a mini-by-mini basis, to avoid the appearance of "racial unity." Edited by Ninjamonkey73, Oct 28 2009, 06:55 PM.

Oh, and I should point out the conversions... As previously stated, the Knights have Space Marine Sniper legs, while the torsos, arms and head are from Cadian Shock Troops. The Paladin rank-and-file Grunts have leftover Lasguns from the Cadian Shock Troops set, with the stocks removed... who needs to worry about recoil when you have hydraulic-powered arms? ![]() This eliminates the problem I *thought* I would have with the Marines all carrying Bolters (which look like SMGs) when in reality the smallest weapon a Paladin would probably carry would be a Rifle. Luckily, the arms and the Bolters are separate pieces! I could even give them Cadian Grenade Launchers if I wanted. These shots of the Paladin with Minigun are too high-contrast for you to really see what's going on -- I already spray-primed him -- but basically I used the Assault Cannon arm from a Terminator Squad (mail-ordered from The Warstore for $10... not cheap, but better than the $50 I would have paid for an entire Termy Squad!) with a standard SM left arm. I glued a Grenade from the Catachan Jungle Fighters set (you can very easily snip one from the ammo-belt bit, and there's no visible pin on them so it looks like it's armed and ready to be lobbed) into the open hand. At first I had given him a leftover left arm from the Sniper Squad Missile Launchers... the hand was in front of the guy's face, so it looked like he was shouting or maybe giving a signal... but then I was like, "who shouts when they're wearing a full face-mask??? don't these guys have radio headsets or something???" So I popped it off and did this instead. ![]()

I used the same "Grenade trick" on this Raider leader and Knight leader:![]() When they're fully-painted you'll be able to see it better.

I may do some snipping-and-clipping on the Knight leader... I don't want to fall into the "Warhammer logic trap" of giving the dinky-est weapons to the best units. Giving him a Catachan Lasgun or maybe an SM Bolter would make him a lot more effective; Pistols are CRAP in Fallout Warfare, and it's generally assumed that leaders have high-quality weapons. However, just for fun, I made a Paldin with two Bolt Pistols LOL. I'm going to call him "Cowboy." I'll post a pic when he's painted.

More updates! BoS team: ![]() Raider Rear View: ![]() Raiders and BoS: ![]() Raider Front View: ![]() I'm kinda psyched! In the past two days I've painted about 20 minis. All that's really left is eyes, and a few minor details like belts, bandoliers and dogtags. I may re-work some of the Raiders' pants, but that's optional. They look decent already. Note that I made the Raiders look "multicultural." I was kind of shocked at how "white" the 40K universe was, and made a conscious effort to include "wastelanders of color."

GREAT STUFF! i do love the 40K plastics, and always have found them to be very useful as bits or as complete toys. it is a shame they keep raising their prices toward low lunar orbit . . . DAWGIE |

From what I can see, you've got good control over your brush, and a decent eye for color. Nitpicking (Don't get angry!): Bases. You need to do something with 'em; a good base can make or break a fig. Your paint looks a bit thick. Putting a bit on a palette and adding a touch of water smooths it out nicely. Shading/highlighting: Good stuff to do. You can 'wash' parts of a mini by taking a darker color of your base color, watering it down until it's very thin (Like milk), and applying it to the desired area. Highlighting can be done many ways, but the most common way is making a thin line of a lighter shade of the color on the top of areas that would recieve the most light. I can link articles and such later, if you'd like. |

Thank you, and those are very good suggestions. For basing, I'm probably going to do a mix of pva glue and sand. The wasteland is a sandy place LOL. I'm really gun-shy about trying highlights. This is pretty much my first painting project, and I put a lot of time into these little dudes, and I'd hate to f**k it all up. |

GET some small gravel and add that to your PVA sand mix for your terrain work. also might consider mixing up a large batch of your favorite base terrain color, as well as any shading or highlight colors to go with it and keep it on hand so that you never run short. and you can also mix the sand, gravel, PVA with your base terrain color, and just apply all in one easy step. Follwoing on from Dawgie's comment - What I tend to do is mix some paint (mid to dark2 brown) into the PVA, paint it onto the base, and then apply sand ontop (quite thickly, so that each figures has a mound around their ankles - don't worry, it won't all glue like that!) That gives a darker undertone, with a lighter 'highlight' of sand on top. All my AC57 figures & Old west figures were based that way, whilst the Africans just have uncoloured PVA. |

I'm kinda diggin' how the bases already have the texture of asphault, I may just mix some black and grey paint to give it the right color, then apply the glue/sand/tiny rocks. Most of my boards (if I ever get them done) will be asphault and sand, so that's what I'm shooting for on the bases. |
