Just saw this recently, one of the best films I've seen in a while, certainly the best new film I've seen this year!

Basic plot is, 20 years ago, an alien spaceship arrives in the sky above Johannesburg under mysterious circumstances. No contact is made for a couple of months, humans decide to inspect, find the aliens malnourished and minus leadership. The aliens are evacuated from the ship, taken to an area (District 9) and they're made to live in this slum. Fastforward 20 years, aliens are still here, no-one knows much about them, District 9 is now fenced off and controlled by MNU, an international corporation. The film follows a worker from MNU, documentary style, changing to standard action towards the end, with news reports, after-event interviews and the like taking place.

Some great inspiration here - not strictly post-apoc, but there are humans living in the shantytown supplying the aliens with food and bartering alien weapons from them, some good shots of the shantys if anyone is making similar terrain. Well worth a watch, great plot, acting and some of the best special effects I've seen in years!

Fun movie. Some of the guys from the club got together to catch a matinee a few weeks back. Loved the Nigerian gang supplying cat food to the aliens in exchange for alien tech.
