Might sound an obvious answer, but model barrels with putty or cotton wool fire/smoke. Hardest part it getting the barrels. Either that or dowel barrels, drilled out in the business end and putty fires/smoke in 'em. |

I agree with Ross' "obvious" anwser. But, "... getting barrels?" There are copper plumbing couplers that could be used and have been used. Danny has a few on the table of one of his recent BarReps iirc. There has to be a simple way to "make it" yourself, I'll investigate it. Taymia makes 1/48 barrels... http://www.tamiyausa.com/images/product/picture.html?category_id=087&product_id=32510&picture_id=header_3.jpg and I purchased a set of them. 12 to a box and the lids are optionally placed on 'em. Their height is 18mm, a little tall but usable. |

I always thought those little things of coffee cream they have at restaurants could make good trash cans. probably a little big, though... |

Yeah, those creamer containers are way over sized. I had my eye on 'em anyway for something else terrain related, but haven't got a clue of what yet

Here is one I Made a couple years ago.![]() ![]() ![]() ::PARTS:: - your barrel (copper pipe fitting, model barrel whatever, make sure its hollow.) - L.E.D. flicker tea light candle form the point shop or dollar store etc. - some cheap synthetic stuffing. The plastic fibers carry the light like a ton of mini curly fiberoptic rods. (my bag cost me arround 4 dollars usd for enough to do more barrels then you will ever want to finish) - a Piece of foamcore or whatever you want to use for the base. ::the fun part:: - Take apart the flicker led candle so that you are left with just the battery holder part and the chip with l.e.d. - cut/drill out the bottom of the barrel and hot glue it over the l.e.d. assembly. - Trace the outer ring of the tea light into your base and cut that out ( you will want access to swap the batters and hit the on off switch and this is hidden in the bottom) - Hot glue the light assembly to your base and cover with hot clue to prevent sand and other glue getting into it while adding sand and whatnot. - Flock or texture the base to match your gaming surface, paint, stuff a bit of the synthetic stuffing into the barrel and your done. I'm not that great at explaining things, but its a fairly simple thing to do. The hardest part for me was disassembling the damned electric candles. Oh and make sure there not the twisty on/ off ones. It needs to be a switch otherwise your barrel is going to be sitting an inch off the table. I eventually wanted to make arround 40 or so and play a game in the "dark with the barrels all over the table turned on. I never made any past the first haha. I think it may be time for me to buy some barrels. Edited by Ironblood, Sep 1 2009, 11:23 AM.

Cool work Ironblood. The lighting really makes this model. I have made some as small stuff. They are dotted around the table and helps make empty spaces into campsites. I use a model barrel (or toy ones). Some are full size whilst others are cut to half size (two for the price of one!). I then stick some tissue paper in the bin. When the glue is dry dampen the tissue. Pull it upwards so it rips unevenly and gives a flame pattern. Paint it up like flames. Get some cotton wool and dip it into a bowl of watered down black paint. Let it soak up and dry off. Then glue the cotton wool into the barrel. When the barrel is dry pull upwards an part to make smoke patterns. Its just a case of adding some grey paint to the smoke. Here are some of mine: ![]()

Dude, that stuff is bad-ass. I'm gonna try that LED trick Iron, I was gonna just paint red and orange glowies on the barrel tops but you've shamed me LOL. (Matt, I like your "The Humongous" mini too!) |

That LED idea is brilliant... I'm sure it could be put to many uses, radioactive waste maybe? |

i was gonna suggest the copper plumbing fitting and then build the flames out of epoxy ribbon, but, man, IRONBLOOD, your way blew that right out of the water with the first salvo! DAWGIE |
